Description

”Vajra is one of the leading estates in Piedmont. The reason is simple. Every wine is spot on.”
- Antonio Galloni (Vinous)

Vajra’s Langhe Nebbiolo is one we turn to for proper Nebbiolo character without the long wait for Barolo. The family puts real care into this younger-vine wine, and the 2025 is excellent drinking already.

The vineyards sit on limestone-rich slopes between 280 and 550 metres, where elevation and airflow help retain freshness. A long harvest through September and early October gave the fruit time to develop its perfume at moderate alcohol levels.

The winemaking is gentle, with a slow extraction of flavour and tannin, followed by just four months in stainless steel. There’s no oak here, keeping the emphasis on the fruit and the variety’s distinctive grip.

Cherry, raspberry and strawberry lead, with floral perfume and a little spice. It’s juicy and medium-bodied, with fine, sandy tannins and a long, fresh finish.

You could certainly tuck a few bottles away for a few years but it's great drinking already. One of our favourite Langhe Nebbs.

93+ points - "Plum, cherry, raspberry, quiet floral perfume, a bit of spice. Medium-bodied, has freshness and juiciness, a stony and slightly sandy feel to tannin, pulls red-fruited on a finish of good length. Very nice wine offering energy and plenty of drinking appeal." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Customer Reviews

Importer's Notes:

Varietal truth, purity of aromatics and depth are the elements the Vajra family longs for in its Langhe DOC Nebbiolo. It grows in younger vineyards across the Tortonian and Serravallian valleys, on calcareous slopes between 280 and 550 metres above sea level. These sites enjoy bright exposures and natural ventilation that favour the elegance, freshness and verticality typical of Nebbiolo.

The Vajra team picked the fruit for the 2025 Langhe DOC Nebbiolo between 12th September and 2nd October, in a late and extended harvest. Moderate temperatures allowed for particularly expressive aromatic ripening while preserving balanced alcohol levels.

The grapes were picked, whenever possible, during the early hours of the morning to preserve freshness. A long and gentle maceration was employed to retain the wine’s vitality and energy. Fermentation lasted up to 20–25 days and was followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation.

The wine aged for approximately four months in stainless-steel tanks before bottling on 16th March 2026.

The 2025 Langhe DOC Nebbiolo shows a lively garnet colour. The nose opens with vibrant wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry, with hints of goji berry intertwined with delicate floral notes and subtle spice. The palate is crunchy and vibrant, with juicy red fruits woven into a well-defined tannic frame. Fresh, energetic and beautifully expressive, it finishes long and perfumed, with lingering floral notes and a deliciously gourmand quality.

G.D. Vajra

G.D. Vajra is a small, artisanal family producer and one of the benchmark modern day producers in Barolo.

The wines are now made by the family's second generation, with Giuseppe in the winemaking driver's seat supported by his siblings; Isidoro and Francesca under the watchful eye of father and founder Aldo and their mother Milena.

These are stunning examples of the regional staple varieties, made with one eye on tradition and one on progression. With holdings in the commune of Barolo as well as Novello, Sinio and Serralunga, they cover some of the most sought-after terroir in the region and make the most of it.

As noted wine writer Antonio Galloni once wrote, theirs is “a world of sublime hand-crafted, artisan wines of the very highest level”.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
