Description

The 1314 range is essentially a "hack" for drinking Bannockburn on a budget. While it is designed for earlier drinking than the flagship estate Chardonnay, the pedigree here is undeniable.

The fruit comes from a spread of vines ranging from fresh 2016 plantings right back to the original 1976 blocks. It gets the full treatment too: wild fermentation in French oak hogsheads (10% new), followed by 85% malolactic fermentation and seven months resting on lees without stirring.

The result is fleshy, soft and immediately welcoming. You get a nose full of custard pie, fresh lemon and ripe stone fruits, shifting into exotic notes of mango and pineapple. There is a lovely touch of almond nougat in there, but it is kept in check by that signature Bannockburn salinity and vibrant acidity. It is rich, textured and ridiculously good value.

93 points
"It’s a wine of excellent fruit intensity and also of out-and-out succulence. Yes please. Love this."
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

93 points - "All estate fruit; 15% new oak, 85% mlf. A very bright green gold. An appealing bouquet of stone fruits, lemon curd, grilled hazelnut and a gentle waft of sea spray. As always with this wine, it's generous and mouth-filling but it's also balanced and long. Drink now and over the next two to three years." - Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

93 points - "The core of fruit flavour here is just simply delicious. In fact this wine pretty much rates as a β€˜wow’ for deliciousness. It tastes of hay and yellow stonefruit, popcorn and pears, with a fully-integrated lacing of cedarwood oak. It’s a wine of excellent fruit intensity and also of out-and-out succulence. Yes please. Love this." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Surprisingly fresh, almost vino verde given it is a chardonnay

1314 Chardonnay is made from a blend of fruit grown on our established vineyards; the oldest vines planted in 1976, through to the most recent 2016 planting. The 2024 vintage is a barrel selection based on an earlier bottling regime and a younger drinking window. The clonal mix includes P58, Bernard 76, 95 & 96, with various vine spacings and planting densities.

Winemaking
Fermentation took place with wild yeast in French oak hogsheads, around 10% of which were new. Approximately 85% of the wine went through malolactic fermentation. It rested on lees, unstirred, for 7 months before blending and bottling.

Tasting Note
Aromas of custard pie, fresh lemon, and ripe stone fruits lead into exotic tropical notes of white peach, mango, and a hint of pineapple, lifted by wet stone, subtle hay, and a whisper of almond and nougat. The palate is fleshy and soft, immediately welcoming, with rich, textural layers that are rounded and enveloping. A touch of salinity and vibrant acidity provide balance, while mineral notes and a hint of creaminess carry through to a supple, lingering finish.

Bannockburn

For over 50 years, Bannockburn has been a quiet force in Australian fine wine. The story began in 1974 when Stuart Hooper discovered and planted this now-iconic site in Victoria’s Moorabool Valley. In 1978, Gary Farr joined as winemaker, bringing a Burgundian lens that helped define the estate’s identity.

Today, Matt Holmes leads the winemaking, first stepping in for the 2005 vintage and returning permanently in 2015 after Michael Glover’s departure. Holmes’ style is thoughtful and site-first - guided by organics, minimal intervention, and an intuitive feel for balance. His Chardonnays are chiseled and composed. The Pinot Noirs - more precise than ever - are some of Victoria's best.

Viticulturist Lucas Grigsby, a 30-year veteran, tends the vines with the same hands-on, regenerative mindset. Together, they farm sustainably - straw mulching, composting, and nurturing cover crops - all to express the site with absolute clarity.

Bannockburn’s single-vineyard range tells the deeper story. S.R.H. Chardonnay draws tension and salinity from ancient marine sediments. The iconic SerrΓ© vineyard, planted densely in 1984, channels a Grand Cru sensibility. These are wines shaped by place, not ego. They hum with Burgundian influence, but speak fluently in an Australian accent.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone β€” no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
