Description

This is the first-ever white wine released by Aeon, and true to form, Alisdair and Kenisha Tulloch haven't gone down the standard stainless-steel path.

Named 'Soleil' (French for Sun), this is a Fumé style Semillon sourced from the clay soils of the Latara vineyard - a site that is literally 100 meters from their front door.

It was 100% barrel fermented and matured in French oak for nine months. That time in wood transforms the wine completely. Instead of the usual sharp acidity of Hunter Semillon, you get a wine with genuine texture and softness. It preserves that core of citrus fruit but wraps it in a savoury, creamy layer that makes it delicious right now.

Production is tiny - just three barrels were made.

94 points - "The wine is very good, indeed. Dubbed a fumé Semillon, and it is. Super flinty nose, with sour white apple, crunchy pear, firm nectarine, and watermelon rind in the fruit department. There’s also lemongrass in perfume, and palate delivers oyster shells saline juiciness, with some raw cashews, savoury pastry, smoked lemons and light lemon yoghurt. Pretty tight and mouthwatering, with blinding rays of acidity, clean line, and driving minerally with a fine dusty chalk texture. Such luminous things in New South Wales. Orta recens quam pura nites!" - Kasia Sobiesiak (The Wine Front)

92 points - "Pale lemon hue. Fragrant papaya and lemon curd aromas with smoky nut complexity. Tight and fresh on the palate, lemon citrus with a touch of ground cumin. Good length, salinity and driving acidity lead to a clean, refreshing finish." - Stuart Knox (The Real Review)

Aeon

The Tulloch name is Hunter Valley royalty, but Aeon is a distinct departure from tradition. This is the personal project of Alisdair Tulloch (fifth generation winemaker and Operations Manager at Keith Tulloch Wines) and his wife Kenisha. Born from a desire to strip winemaking back to its geological roots, the philosophy here is simple: "The variety is the language, but the geology is the story."

Alisdair farms these vineyards himself, focusing on sustainable practices to let the specific soils - whether sandy alluvial flats or iron-rich red earth - shine through. In the winery, he leans heavily into 100% whole bunch fermentation and eschews new oak (or "French trees" as he calls them) in favour of older, large-format barrels. This approach builds structure through stems rather than wood, preserving the delicate nuance of the fruit.

The result is a range of wines that feel distinctly modern yet pay homage to the region's history of "Light Dry Reds." They are savoury, nervy, and lower in alcohol, offering a structural complexity that stands apart from the plush, fruit-driven norm. These are lovely wines from the new generation of the Hunter Valley.
