An amber Pinot Gris from the talented VS&B duo. This is a top-flight orange wine - the way Pinot Gris should be.

Description

This is the way Pinot Gris should be treated.

The Grauburgunder (German for Pinot Gris) spends a good time on skins before being pressed, allowing the natural colour and tannin of the variety to shine.

It's an excellent first crack at the wine style. There's loads of fresh stone fruit and florals to be enjoyed, yet the flavours are fresh and crisp, with clean acidity and plenty of definition.

So many producers are coming out with amber wines at the moment, and this is one of the most successful releases we've seen. Simply delectable.

    Good Aussie Orange

It’s often the case with Aussie orange wines that they lack acidity despite great texture; this wine has it, and is complex, balanced, and absolutely delightful.

    Easy to drink

Complex but still light and easy to drink. Expect hints of berries and spice.

    Tasty orange wine

A really delicious skin-contact natural wine that I could drink all day long!

Our red-drinking white: Pinot Gris, fermented on skins. A small batch wine from a 740m altitude site in Whitlands in the King Valley. The 2022 iteration of this wine is probably the most complete and complex version yet. Think orchard fruits - baked quince, pear flesh, hints of calvados and unripe strawberries and a wash of asian spices and alpine herbs. The palate is like a mirror world to Pinot Noir - the tannin and structure is similar yet the wine is more delicate and lingering.

Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown

Tessa and Jeremy are playing a long-game with their Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown label.

They have invested in a block of land high in the hills behind Beechworth and have planted 10,000 vines on it over the last couple of years with the plan to farm it organically. Tessa has a wealth of experience from time at Sorrenberg and Kooyong, Jeremy is an architect by trade with an eye for detail.

It comes as no surprise that the buzz around this husband and wife team is palpable and the praise is high. Max Allen called them, “one of a remarkable number of impressive new wine labels to have cropped up in Beechworth over the last five years.”

They are going to be at the forefront of Beechworth wine for many years to come.
