Description

Back again – Ravensworth’s high country Gamay from the beautiful Johansen vineyard in Tumbarumba. Bryan Martin gives it the full flavour treatment here: a mix of carbonic and whole-berry maceration, around four weeks on skins, then a long 15-month rest in Italian concrete pyramids (once called “Isis”, now sensibly renamed after their square base and triangular sides).

The result is generous and aromatic, loaded with red fruits – some sweet, some tart – and a lift of mountain herbs. There’s a fine, intense tannin structure wrapped around bright acidity, giving it shape without losing that Gamay juiciness.

It’s playful but not lightweight, showing just how much character Gamay can deliver from the high country. Chill it down a touch and let it run from start to finish at the table.

90 points - "This is tart and fresh, juicy in a way but with a cut and thrust of crispness and briny, blood orange lift. Just ripe cherries, cranberry, a bit of uplifting white balsamic in the midst. A bit of an edgy wine, but in the best sense frisky and keen. It also has quite the alpine bent. Neat, and fun." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Bright and lively

This almost caused an argument at our place. I loved the bright crunch of this one but my wife was definitely not a fan. My recommendation comes with a warning: If you're looking for smooth and comfortable, this is not for you.

Not a good wine

Volatile, nail varnish smell and no structure

It's back again, our high country gamay. Sourced from the beautiful Johansen vineyard in Tumbarumba. We use a few techniques like carbonic and whole-berry maceration, generally around 4 weeks on skins. The big difference this year is the extrended maturation in Italian concrete. The wine spend 15 months in Nice Velo pyramids, formerly known as Isis, but thankfully renamed after the structure with a square base and triangular sides.

Generous, full of red fruits, sour and sweet, mountain herbs (as opposed to seaside herbs?) the pallet is acid framed with a lovely fine intense tannic structure.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
