Description

Here’s a wine that walks right out of the Hilltops and straight into Piedmont with a distinctly Ravensworth twist. Bryan Martin blends Barbera and Nebbiolo here with all the charm and cleverness you’d expect, delivering a wine that’s bright, savoury, and seriously moreish.

Barbera brings its juicy red fruit, vibrant acidity, and easy charm, while Nebbiolo steps in with florals, spice, and a bit of muscle to rein it all in. It’s a classic pairing - lifted aromatics, plush cherry fruit, and that firm-but-fine Nebbiolo grip tying it all together. Bryan reckons it’s “a little more serious for the process” this year, and it shows in the wine’s structure and depth.

Medium-bodied, food-friendly and wildly versatile, this is the kind of red you bring to a dinner party and end up fielding questions about all night. Delicious now, and will hold its shape beautifully over the next few years.

"Our tilt at the wonderful Lange blends from Piemonte. Barbera is just so juicy and zesty, the introduction of the more serious Nebbiolo tames this acidity and adds a wash of fine tannin. Like mash and gravy, they just work.
- Bryan Martin (Ravensworth)

92 points - "Crisp and slurpy at once, I said ‘that’s delicious’ as I finished my first taste and that theme continued as I reviewed. Super easy drinking, brittle if not crisp edges, tart cherry, cranberry, touch of Campari, a pleasing, slightly bitter finish. Great energy, a thirst-quenching nature to the wine, fine, chalky tannins lending freshness too. Oh yes, yum, terrific drinking." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

    Lovely great Value Wine

Really excellent value, juicy, balanced wine. Will buy again!

The cellar buddy to our 2024 Fiano.

We think the addition of Nebbiolo to Barbera adds a nice savoury, floral wash, makes a dent in the rampant acidity Barbera comes with and also adds structure which is generally lacking in Barbera.

A lovely blended wine that is a little more serious for the preocess.

Ravensworth

Bryan Martin is one of the most creative and inquisitive winemakers we've ever met. After leaving his position as winemaker alongside Tim Kirk at Canberra regional flagbearer, Clonakilla, Bryan went full steam in on his own label Ravensworth, which has firmly hit cult status amongst collectors.

He and his wife Jocelyn have a beautiful property outside of Murrumbateman which is home to all of their excellent Estate wines and Bryan also searches surrounding vineyards and out to the Hilltops region to compile his excellent value Regional series of wines. Sustainability and an unwavering commitment to quality across the board underpin the entire operation at Ravensworth. Perhaps best known for his benchmark Shiraz Viognier and textural Rieslings, Bryan is also arguably the country's best producer of Sangiovese and is a true master of the dark art of skin-contact whites.

Bryan embodies everything we love about small artisanal Australian producers. He is humble, irreverent, committed to the pursuit of excellence and always looking to explore. Quite simply, if you see a Ravensworth wine anywhere, you should buy it.
