Description

The Pobblebonk is the wine that kicked off the Quealy story back in 2006, and it remains one of the Mornington Peninsula’s most original whites. Inspired by the field blends of Friuli in northern Italy, it brings together Riesling, Friulano, Pinot Grigio and a splash of Ribolla Gialla from Quealy’s organically farmed Balnarring vineyard.

Each variety is picked and fermented separately with wild yeast in old oak before being blended for balance and texture. The 2024 vintage was small but superb, producing fruit of real intensity and drive.

It’s fragrant and bright, with aromas of citrus, white flowers and almond meal. The palate has gentle texture and grip, finishing clean, saline and long. It’s a white that manages to be both refreshing and complex - the kind of wine that disappears quickly at the table.

Pobblebonk has become a cult classic for good reason: it’s totally distinctive, and every release is a reminder that it's not just Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that excel in the Mornington Peninsula.

95 points - "Light to mid straw colour in the glass, the bouquet savoury with some nutty notes possibly from barrel ferment, adding layers to the floral and spicy fruit aromas. Deliciously intense fruit on palate with a touch more dimension than the Quealy pinot grigios. It's truly more than the sum of its parts. A lovely drink, intense, long and harmonious, the finish lip-smackingly dry and appetising." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)

95 points - "Quite possibly the most delicious Pobblebonk to date. Riesling, friulano, pinot grigio and ribolla gialla are the friends, each fermented wild in used French oak, on full solids and later blended. It’s heady with meadow flowers, lemon blossom and hints of lemon verbena, really spicy with nutty, leesy aromas, and the palate is both textural and alive with fine acidity. Neat phenolics add to the pleasure of drinking this." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - "How do you make a melange of fruity, bitter and salty so perfectly? So easygoing, delivering the goods, not stingy on flavour, not pushy with perfume. Just right. Lightly honeyed, with pink rock salt to balance, crunch of pears and cashews, with a cooling aniseed to finish. Textural but smooth. Simply yum. Nailed it." - Kasia Sobiesiak (The Wine Front)

he first wine made by Quealy was this field blend Pobblebonk (in 2006). The inspiration was Jermann Vintage Tunina (Please google this ground breaking winery located in Gorizia, Italy), whom Kat & Kevin revisited in 2006 after Kev's pilgrimage there in 1995. The Field blend is designed to create balance, complexity and interest by elevating the great characters of each grape variety. The frogs on Pobblebonk label illustrates our decision to nurture & regenerate our farm's environment all those years ago. Quealy's winery vineyard is now certified organic.

Quealy

Kathleen Quealy is part of the winemaking heart & soul of Mornington Peninsula.

The first person to plant Pinot Gris in Australia, Kathleen and her husband Kevin McCarthy launched T'Gallant winery in the 90s, pioneering this famous variety. But it was with Quealy Vineyards, based in Merricks North, with the winery and cellar door in the centre of the viticultural action, where they made their mark.

Kathleen has continued to innovate - along with PG, Quealy is renowned for super-interesting expressions of Muscat and Fruilano, experimenting with different degrees of skin contact and fermentation styles. Kathleen & Kevin's son Tom has now taken on the daily winemaking duties, with guidance from Mum and Dad and the wines have never looked better.

Kathleen is a true industry legend and one of the most visionary wine personalities on the Peninsula.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
