Description

This is an exquisite Single Vineyard Chardonnay from Anna Pooley and the whole Pooley team.

The Cooinda Vale fruit in this wine once formed an integral component of the famous Yattarna Chardonnay from Penfolds. Since 2016 Anna has kept the fruit separate in order to produce a single expression from this immaculate site. And it's a blinder.

It's a blistering Chardonnay - tight, nervy and crackling with energy.

Get in now on what is sure to be one of Tasmania's most sought-after Chardonnays given time.

Chardonnay sourced from the Cooinda Vale vineyard in Campania, Coal River Valley. Juicy white peach, nectarine and citrus fruits with hints of soft spice and clover blossom, crème fraîche, oatmeal, almond paste and crushed riverstone. Just a touch of lemon curd flows in on the palate, which shows a slinky texture and elegant line. The flavours stretch out long and true, with a stony savouriness on the exit.

A more golden style for this wine, if you take my meaning. Buttered peach, aniseed, cinnamon and pastry, lemon oil. It’s all stone fruit with a dash of citrus, quite nutty and glossy, does have some flinty texture and a bit of citrus zip to acidity, though it’s maybe lacking a bit of focus, intensity and energy, and finishes with solid length. It’s a nice enough wine, though off the pace for this site and producer, or at least that’s what I think. It’s an opinion, not a fact.

The Cooinda Vale Chardonnay is a foundational and distinguished wine in the Pooley portfolio, representing a benchmark for Tasmanian quality. Sourced from our original 1985 vineyard in Campania, its sheltered North-East aspect and distinctive sandy loams over clay yield fruit of intense focus and drive.

Each vintage is hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed before undergoing meticulous barrel fermentation and extended maturation in fine-grained French oak. This careful process delivers a Chardonnay of crystalline purity, seamless balance, and impressive length. A true Coal River Valley classic built for serious cellaring

Pooley

Pooley is one of the leading family-owned wineries in Tasmania, renowned for their exquisite Single Vineyard examples of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling from the Coal River region, less than an hour north of Hobart.

The family vineyard was planted in 1985 by Margaret and Denis Pooley. Today it is in the hands of the third generation of Pooleys, with award-winning winemaker Anna Pooley heading up the cellar and her brother Matt as viticulturalist. They make a killer team and the family business is going from strength to strength.

Anna's wines are pure, refined and eminently cellar-worthy. A class-act producer setting a cracking pace for all of Tasmania to follow.
