Description

This is the type of wine that will get you hooked on the succulent red blends of Barolo and beyond.

The three main varieties in this wine - Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto - are made for each other, especially when guided by the capable hands of the Vajra team.

It's purpose built to be utterly un-put-down-able. A flourish of red fruits, Spring flowers and sweet spices makes this match perfectly to all matter of foods.

It's one of the most affable and delectable table wines from this region getting around at the moment, and ridiculous value to boot.

"It’s a staple of many in this country looking for a juicy and early drinking expression of Piedmont red."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

91 points - "There’s no mention of this wine on the Vajra website, which is interesting, though it’s a staple of many in this country looking for a juicy and early drinking expression of Piedmont red. It’s 54% Nebbiolo, 31% Dolcetto, 6% Barbera, 2% Freisa, 2% Albarossa and a remaining 5% including Slarina and Chatus. Importer: Cellarhand. A juicy wine here. Red cherry, raspberry, dried herbs, some liquorice and mint, a little vanilla and dusty spice. It’s medium-bodied, some blood orange in with red fruits, an open-weave grainy grip to tannin, with a fruity yet savoury finish of solid length. As with many Italian wines, it will be at its best served with food." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Perfect midweeker...

Lighter-weight but still plenty of Piedmont body and regional personality. So good

G.D. Vajra Langhe Rosso is a hug from Piedmont. It’s an invitation to explore its different varieties and to get to know its personality. From young vineyards, it is a fruity, delicately complex wine – an ideal companion at the table. It’s predominately Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto, with smaller quantities of Freisa, Albarossa, Pinot Noir. Each vineyard is harvested when it reaches perfect ripeness. The varieties are vinified one by one, to express their personality and uniqueness. The wine is aged for 18-24 months partially in steel and then in first- second- and third-use pieces.

G.D. Vajra

G.D. Vajra is a small, artisanal family producer and one of the benchmark modern day producers in Barolo.

The wines are now made by the family's second generation, with Giuseppe in the winemaking driver's seat supported by his siblings; Isidoro and Francesca under the watchful eye of father and founder Aldo and their mother Milena.

These are stunning examples of the regional staple varieties, made with one eye on tradition and one on progression. With holdings in the commune of Barolo as well as Novello, Sinio and Serralunga, they cover some of the most sought-after terroir in the region and make the most of it.

As noted wine writer Antonio Galloni once wrote, theirs is “a world of sublime hand-crafted, artisan wines of the very highest level”.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
