Description

The Khakibos from Thistle & Weed is a blend of five varieties sourced across different areas of the Western Cape.

Verdelho from the Helderberg Mountain, Chenin Blanc from Paarl, Palomino, Fernao Pires and Alvarinho from the Breede River.

They all combine into a fresh and lively wine that's a feast for the senses - citrus, orange blossom and toasty notes entangle with an electric line of acidity that finishes with a big bang of tang and zing. Superb.

"Showing the gentle touch that is a feature of Stephanie Wiid's winemaking, this is a blend of what she calls 'drought tolerant varieties'... Peach, pear and citrus flavours are supported and freshened by vivid acidity, hints of lime and mezcal and a racy, almost nettley finish. Effortlessly complex."
- Tim Atkin MW (2024 South African Wine Report)

"Verdelho at 45%, with three other Iberian varieties plus 19% Chenin, electric 2023 finely crafted to create a multifaceted, richly flavoured masterpiece. Stonefruit, quince, hay & oat biscuit, rounded body & extended finish. Longer life ahead than 2022."

45% Verdelho, 19% Chenin Blanc, 15% Alvarinho, 11% Palomino and 10% Fernão Pires

The Verdelho is grown in koffieklip-rich soil found anchored on the foot slopes of the Helderberg Mountain; the Chenin blanc is located in an exceptional Paarl vineyard; the old vine Palomino is grown in Piekenierskloof sandstone; Alvarinho on gravel in Wellington; and Fernão Pires is from the gravelly soils located along the Breede River.

The grapes were delicately wholebunch pressed and naturally fermented 3rd fill and older French oak barrels, only the free run juice was used. The wine was allowed to mature on lees for 9 months prior to botling, unfiltered.

A voluptuous Cape Blend that brings forward a medley of explosive aromatics. Aromas of neroli, preserved lemon and toasted brioche. The richly layered, and expressive palate is kept in line by a searing acidity finishing with a playful zest.
