Description

Pooley has a reputation for incredibly pure Pinot Noirs that set the pace for the Coal River region of Tasmania.

This wine shows the beauty of the Pooley house style - a combination of fruit from the different vineyards owned and managed by the Pooley family - beautifully finessed to bottle by the talented hands of Anna Pooley.

Anna has the midas touch with this variety, and this is the best place to start to get a feel for this great family-owned producer.

"Quite dark, vibrant and deep in the glass. Lifted and heady aromas of blueberry, dried herbs, sap, spice, dark cherry, clovey oak and white pepper. The palate is full-flavoured and fleshy, with lashings of blue and red fruits, along with spice, bramble and a woodsy lift. A bigger framed pinot noir that is built for the long haul, but also drinks very nicely now."
- Aaron Brasher (The Real Review)

The season started with consistent spring rainfall that built a solid foundation with strong, healthy canopies and bountiful bunch numbers. Mild conditions continued through to summer with few days reaching over 25C. The start of Autumn provided glorious sunshine days and cool oceanic evenings hailing the start of veraison. The vacant heat returned shortly thereafter to kickstart what would be a long and late vintage. The fruit was in absolutely no rush to be picked and showed its relaxed appreciation through integrated and balanced phenolic profiles.

A blend of Cooinda Vale and Butcher’s Hill with the addition of some smaller parcels of selected growers within the Coal River Valley. Wild fermentation (5% whole bunch) over 14 days then 7-day post ferment maceration. Fermentation took place in 2.5-tonne open ferment stainless steel with pumping over once per day. Matured for 11 months in French oak (10% New). A mixture of (90%) puncheons (500L) with a small portion matured in (10%) barriques (225L).

Very smooth and flavorsome Tassie Pinot. So easy drinking, hard to resist another glass.

Pooley

Pooley is one of the leading family-owned wineries in Tasmania, renowned for their exquisite Single Vineyard examples of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling from the Coal River region, less than an hour north of Hobart.

The family vineyard was planted in 1985 by Margaret and Denis Pooley. Today it is in the hands of the third generation of Pooleys, with award-winning winemaker Anna Pooley heading up the cellar and her brother Matt as viticulturalist. They make a killer team and the family business is going from strength to strength.

Anna's wines are pure, refined and eminently cellar-worthy. A class-act producer setting a cracking pace for all of Tasmania to follow.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
