Description

Marco Lubiana’s 2023 One Terroir Pinot is a proper deep dive into his home block at Granton - a single parcel, gravelly clay soils, exposed to wind and a bit more wild than the rest. This is Marco’s most hands-off, whole-bunch ferment of the year, made from a small crop with heaps of flavour and texture. No added sulphur during ferment, foot-stomped to break the cap, then left to gently find its shape in older barrels.

It’s the kind of Pinot that doesn’t jump out of the glass all dressed up - it’s more subtle, more structural, and really benefits from a decant or just taking your time with it. Built from the ground up to be cellared, but already full of detail if you’re up for a bit of a slow burn.

There’s no gloss here, just a real sense of place and a winemaker who’s not afraid to let the vineyard lead. From certified biodynamic vines and made with serious intent, this is one to track across a few hours - or better yet, a few years.

The 2022 One Terroir Pinot Noir is from one parcel of pinot off gravelly clay higher up on the estate hill, it is more exposed to westernly weather conditions and produces a low crop with great phenolic ripeness especially in 2022 when it was a cooler, more drawn out season. I use 100% whole bunch on this cuvee as it has good phenolic ripeness in the stems and typically ferment it for 2 weeks with foot stomping to break the cap up (no sulfur during fermentation).

I find with my whole bunch wines that it takes them a few hours to open up, I would recommend decanting. Don't expect it to be cherries and vanilla because it is not, it is a wine for the brain, watch it and sip it over 3 days if you can. Great with food. As it has already had one year in bottle but needs more time. From certified biodynamic vineyards.

Marco Lubiana

Marco Lubiana is the latest of his bloodline to take up winemaking. The Lubianas have made wine in Italy since the 1800s, with Marco's father Steve founding his acclaimed biodynamic wine label, Stefano Lubiana, in Tasmania in 1990.

Marco has a degree in Oenology and Viticulture and biodynamic farming in his blood. His wines are carefully farmed and brought to bottle with a mostly natural methodology. An established and well-known vineyard recently purchased by the Lubianas is the source of the fruit. His first releases are incredibly good. Clearly the grape doesn't fall far from the vine.

Get in early on Marco's wines. As word gets out, these premium Tasmanian cuveés will disappear in no time.
