Description

Atanasius is the open-hearted extrovert of the Gut Oggau family - a bright, charismatic blend of Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch that’s all about energy, clarity, and charm. Sourced from 35-year-old vines rooted in gravel and limestone, it’s a wine that wears its origins proudly.

This vintage bursts from the glass with red cherries, wild herbs and the subtlest smokiness. It’s juicy and upfront without being simple, with an invigorating crunch and mineral undertow that keeps things seriously compelling. Made with zero additions and aged in large-format oak, it’s unfiltered, unfined, and completely unmasked.

Always a favourite, Atanasius is the kind of red that feels effortless to drink but rewards closer attention. Whether you’re new to natural wine or a seasoned devotee, this is a vibrant and self-assured expression of Burgenland - Gut Oggau at their most generous and uplifting.

Fantastic drop

Wild blueberries and raspberries with an interesting earthiness that hints at notes of leather and tobbaco. Slightly effervescent mouthfeel and tartness can be noted in this drop. Pleasantly light tannins. Serve at room temperature or chilled. This wine would pair well with lamb or pork.

Amazing wine

Like drinking a grape zappo

Varieties: Zweigelt and Blaufrankisch
Age of Vines: 35 years
Soil: Gravel and Limestone
Vinification Method: Grapes are hand harvested and destemmed. Fermentation takes place in used 500, and 1200-litre barrels, and the juice spends about 3 weeks in contact with the skins. The wine goes through elevage in the same barrels for about 12 months, with no batonnage. The wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and with zero addition of sulphur.

Gut Oggau

Gut Oggau is one of Burgenland's finest cult producers.

Eduard Tscheppe & Stephanie Tscheppe-Eselböck took over Vineyard Wimmer, a 13-hectare estate near the banks of Lake Neusiedl, in 2007.

In the intervening years, they have converted the vineyard to biodynamics (Demeter certified) and set about producing some of Burgenland's most electric lo-fi wines.

Raw, charismatic and lively, the Gut Oggau Australian allocations come and go in the blink of an eye.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
