Description

Steve Crawford works with some great old vineyards across the Barossa Valley, with the Hongell Grenache coming from a vineyard just to the south of the historic Barossa sub-region of Tanunda.

It was made with 30% whole bunches and old oak. Steve looks to capture the personality of each vineyard he works from, here he's done a top notch job.

It's Barossa Grenache with a different look. It's bright, crunchy, and wickedly drinkable. Grenache fans with a penchant for original expressions of the variety should get on this, particularly as volumes are limited.

"Red fruit, cranberry, white pepper, dried herb and rosehip, a little orange peel. A lighter bodied style, crisp and lively, fine dusty and peppery grip, a light amaro tang to it gives it a cool alpine character, with a crisp red fruited finish of brightness and excellent length. Beautifully made with a distinctly Italianate (Pelaverga springs to mind) quality to it. I’m all about this. What a great drink!"

Solid but not phenomenal

Best Hongell

A super fresh Grenache from the Barossa, perhaps Steve's best, so far. Great balance makes it ideal for both sipping or pairing with a tender piece of meat. Earth and fruit beautifully combined. A second bottle may be inevitable.

Get on the bandwagon

Poached strawberry, raspberry and musk. Then darker fruits like plum and dark cherry. Only medium bodied but the acid is perfectly fresh and the tannin builds on the back palate with time. Starts a little sweetish but finishes savoury with good length too. Not sure if it will be a long termer but a wonderful wine for the short to medium term.

Frederick Stevenson

Steve Crawford started his Barossa label under the pseudonym of Frederick Stevenson whilst working at a larger winery.

Now, flying solo, Steve's minimalist, vibrant vinos are garnering plenty of attention for the lighter shade of the region that they portray.

He looks for vineyards that are farmed organically or sustainably, believing that healthy vines make better wines. And little tinkering in the winery preserves the natural brightness and personality of the sites he works with.

Steve is an exciting producer and firmly part of the Barossa avant-garde movement.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
