Description

Australian by blood but Italian by nature, Dave Fletcher has been making exemplary expressions of Nebbiolo in Italy's northern Piemonte regions for over a decade.

For this Langhe Nebb, Dave blends cuvees from two different vineyard sites; one providing structure and other providing elegance. It's an opulent yet fresh take on the region's 'entry level' Nebbiolo, but one well worthy of fighting with the bigger names. Half of the vineyards Dave works with are certified organic, with the other half in conversion, and all the wines are fermented naturally.

This is tarry, grungy Nebbiolo with lightish tannins for the variety but plenty of dark fruit, tobacco and spice characters. A wine to be sucked into.

I have a heavy addiction to Nebbiolo, and I live in Barbaresco where I'm completely surrounded by it. I'm also Australian by birth and that means I'm a little bit of a stranger amongst the hills of the Langhe, but I do feel like it's home now. My addiction has taken me on a ride that I would never have dreamed of. I started making wine from the day I left school, and even though I didn't inherit a winery or watch my Dad work the vines, it's been an uncontrollable passion for me since day one. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I found Nebbiolo back in 2006... 10 years later, I'm living amongst the vines in Italy, making wine in the old train station of Barbaresco, and enjoying the positive feedback from my customers that keeps me striving to aim higher.

Dave Fletcher fell in love with Nebbiolo early in his winemaking career.

After some time spent in the Nebbiolo Mecca, Piemonte, Dave moved his whole family and life there to pursue his passion for the variety. He took up a position as winemaker at famous producer Cerrato and still makes the wines there to this day.

His own label has been a slow labour of love to get off the ground but now it's in full swing. Through sourcing select plots of fruit from local growers in Barbaresco and planting his own vines, his small eponymous label is now taking flight.

Precious little of the Fletcher wines make it to Australia and they sell out in a flash. If you're a true enthusiast of Nebbiolo, you need to get to know Dave's wines, they offer brilliant value for money.
