Description

The Carinus cousins, Danie and Hugo, are part of that new-wave energy really putting South African Syrah back on the map. While they have deep roots in the Swartland, they’ve got a knack for finding prime parcels in Stellenbosch that offer a bit more lift and elegance than the traditional heavy-hitters.

This fruit comes from a single vineyard in the Polkadraai Hills, which is pretty much the "it" spot for Syrah right now. It sits on decomposed sandstone soils that bring a distinct mineral clarity and a natural freshness, which is exactly what you want to keep the wine vibrant in that Mediterranean heat.

In the cellar, they don’t mess about too much. They added about 30% of the stems back into the ferment to give the wine some structural backbone and a nice herbal perfume. It’s all about balance here. The winemaking is really hands-off, letting the fruit weight do the talking.

On the nose, you get heaps of red and black cherry, rose petals, and that classic hit of black pepper and cured meat. It’s medium-bodied and really harmonious, with lightly grippy tannins that give it a great, food-friendly chew. Honestly, it's just a sophisticated, detailed red that’s perfect for a Sunday roast or a high-quality midweek glass.

93 points - "From a Polkadraa Hills vineyard on sandstone. 30% stems added back. Red and black cherry, rose, cured meat and black pepper on the nose while the palate is medium bodied and harmonious – nice fruit weight, fresh acidity and lightly grippy tannins make for very pleasing drinking. Alc: 13.97%." - Christian Eedes (Wine Magazine)

Perfume of purple flowers, red and black berries, and white pepper spice. On the palate, the fruit it bright with a grippy acidity.

Delicate, but crunchy tannin on the finish.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
