The 2022 Scions of Sinai Atlantikas Bushvine Maritime Pinotage is a remarkable expression of coastal terroir, crafted by the passionate and dedicated Bernhard Bredell.
This unique Pinotage is sourced from two maritime bush vine vineyards located near the South Atlantic shoreline in False Bay. The cool, breezy conditions and high diurnal range of these sites contribute to the wine’s vibrant character. The vineyards feature diverse soils, with one consisting of light, sandy topsoil and decomposed granite, and the other rooted in clay-laden granite.
Grapes are harvested by hand in two separate picks, 15 days apart, to capture a range of ripeness. The winemaking process is meticulous and gentle, with 25% of the grapes fermented whole-bunch in open-top vessels, another 25% de-stemmed and fermented on skins for only three hours, and the remaining 50% de-stemmed and fermented in open-top vessels. The resulting wine is basket pressed, blended, and aged on lees for eight months before bottling unfiltered and unfined.
The 2022 Atlantikas Pinotage showcases aromas of cherry, cranberry, and raspberry with subtle herbal notes. On the palate, it is light-bodied, juicy, and fresh, featuring red cherry and strawberry flavors with a slight earthy finish. Balanced acidity and soft tannins provide structure, making this Pinotage a perfect companion for a variety of dishes or enjoyed on its own.
