Description

It's becoming increasingly difficult to find good Margaret River Chardonnay at a price point that you can drink any night of the week.

This is part of their Sub-Regional range, exploring the pockets of Margaret River that excite them the most. The Chardonnay fruit for this wine comes from a couple of small vineyards in Treeton, to the north-east of Margaret River township.

If you're familiar with the way these two make Chardonnay, it will come as no surprise that this packs a punch, albeit a slightly more mid-weight example of the variety than you might typically expect from Margaret River.

It's open for business. The perfect wine to scratch the MR Chardy itch when it creeps up on you.

Treeton. It’s a weird little area full of hillbillies, dairy cows and interestingly some great Chardonnay vineyards…. Cold at night, warm in the day, with deep silver/grey sands that I think produce great Chardonnay. This wine is a combination of two vineyards, that in this year were just right – awesome in fact. Grace & White which has been with me a while and a new vineyard called Wilsons which is very exciting to have hold of another tiny and unique fruit resource. 2022 is another very good vintage, it also does suck a bit as there was very little of it – crops were at an all-time low on many sites and these Chardonnay vineyards were no exception. ‘22 was also pretty darn warm at times which goes against the recent vintage grain in Margaret River, but it seemed no issue for these great sites that sailed through the heat with nary an issue. The season was early-ish in terms of picking dates. But, as always, these vineyards were some of the last, both being harvested on the 28th of February. Weirdly, this was actually about the same time as the cooler and wetter 2021 vintage, and very similar to the very mild and much heavier cropping 2023 vintage… go figure.

The grapes were harvested by hand and whole bunch-pressed directly to new, one and two-year-old puncheons, with a smattering of barriques for good measure. We did no settling or fining. The juice was then very carefully neglected and allowed to undergo spontaneous fermentation, which kicked off on day three after pressing. After a four-week ferment the wine remained on gross lees un-sulphured until September of that year. In November, it was emptied from barrel, settled, filtered and bottled.- Julian Langworthy, Nocturne

95 points - "Julian Langworthy crafts scintillating chardonnay, this is as good as ever. It starts out tight, linear and citrusy yet unfurls and builds. Hints of stone fruit, creamy nutty lees, and overall, a very pure expression. Moreish and savoury with mouth-watering acidity; it’s long, pure, refined and very classy. Quite effortless – to drink." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
