2022 Nocturne Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Highly Rated
Julian Langworthy is one of the country's finest winemakers, and he believes this is the best Cabernet he makes. Hard to disagree... a seriously good Margaret River Cabernet here.

Nocturne is the private label of highly decorated winemaker Julian Langworthy.

Julian has received plenty of attention since taking home the 2016 Jimmy Watson Trophy for his work on the Deep Woods Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, but it's this winemaking project which is closest to his heart.

From his much-loved Sheoak Vineyard in the Yallingup Hills, he is striving to create an elegant, regional Cabernet Sauvignon of premium quality. This Cabernet always comes with a signature nori-roll-like character that transports you to the Western Australian coastline.

This wine is a fantastic medium-bodied expression of this vineyard. Supple and incredibly approachable, yet will mature beautifully over the long term. This wine should be on the hit list for every devotee of Margaret River Cabernet.

"Cabernet off the Sheaok Vineyard, and it’s a beauty... Understandably there’ll be a desire to open this now, but it will garner more complexity with age."

2022 was as suggested prior a cassis flavoured dream. Whilst we
had very little fruit on the vines, a pitiful 2.8t / Ha. But what was
there tasted of raw emotion!
We commenced picking Sheoak Cabernet on the 14th of April,
some 3 weeks later than the tricky 21 vintage. What we got from
this lovely time in the sun, under an Indian summer so to speak,
was perfect tannins ripeness. Densely structured, instantly
perfumed and richly coloured. The wine spent 15 days on skins,
with a peak fermentation temperature of around 28 degrees C.
The wine was pressed to tank and settled briefly before being
transferred to a combination of new (25%) and two & three-year
old barrels to undergo malolactic fermentation. The wine was
racked only once in this time and, after 15 months in oak, was
emptied from barrel. 100% Cabernet from a very special vineyard.
The Sheoak vineyard makes expressive, medium-bodied silky structured wines. Dark fruit flavours and high notes of cassis and warm spice frame this slightly more brooding release of the Nocturne SV. While it’s amazingly accessible on release, this wine would love 3 to 6 years further maturation, which will really make this amazing wine shine. – Julian Langworthy

95 points - "Cherry, cassis, dried cranberry, biscuit spice and cocoa, and it’s also way less minty/mentholly than some of the other releases, though there’s still a faint signature of vineyard there. It’s dark fruited, but also has some earthy tobacco and black olive flavours, with something of a ferrous/ironstone grip to tannin, balanced acidity, and a finish of excellent length. This is a very strong release. It feels like it all came together." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

95 points - "Cabernet off the Sheaok Vineyard, and it’s a beauty (although it comes in a way-too-heavy bottle about 1.5kg when full). No complaints about the flavour profile of blackberry essence and cassis, cedary oak spices and toasted nori, black olive tapenade and menthol. It’s fuller bodied with a ping of lively acidity, and the tannins are lovely – ripe yet with a cocoa-powder texture. Understandably there’ll be a desire to open this now, but it will garner more complexity with age." - Jane Faulkner (Halliday Wine Companion)

Beautiful rich cab sauvignon - my new favourite

I have been a fan of Cab sauv for years.. I love it.

This one is great. Big, fresh, beautifully balanced wine ... absolutely delicious and missing that OTT mouth puckering overdose of tannin that sometimes marrs otherwise great Cabs.

My wine of the season. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
