One of Tasmania's most dynamic winemakers in full flight with this release - an electric Pinot Noir from our most southern state.

The Dr. Edge Tasmanian Pinot Noir is made by Peter Dredge, the winemaker at Meadowbank in the Derwent Valley.

This wine is made from fruit from opposite ends of the Apple Isle - the Derwent & Tamar Valleys. Pete has captured the lightness and purity of Tasmanian Pinot Noir with this combo.

This is a rockstar wine from one of Australia's most exciting cool-climate producers. Don't hesitate on this one - it won't be around for long.

Dr Edge Tasmania Pinot Noir is a blend of Derwent Valley (80%) & Tamar Valley (20%) fruit. All manner of whole cluster inclusion, hand stomp, foot stomp and bum stomp maceration occurs across each parcel before blending to the Dr's house style. Natural yeast (Pied de Cuve method) ferments the grapes which are pressed to old oak casks to lay low for 9 months before bottling without the use of fining agents.

Region: Derwent & Tamar Valleys, TAS
Blend: Pinot Noir (100%)

Bottle Size:

94 points - "A blend of 80/20% Derwent Valley/Tamar Valley fruit, whole cluster, wild yeast, foot stomped, hand stomped, karate chopped and pressed to old oak casks for nine months of maturation. Bright, bouncy and complex, just like the good Dr himself, this year's release is light ruby in colour with notes of red plum, red cherry, wild strawberry and redcurrant with plenty of wild-eyed whole-bunch spice, gamey notes and a lovely chalky tannin vibe, finishing minerally and spacious with amaro-flecked cherry and raspberry fruits." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - "Spicy, cherry and raspberry, hazelnut and earthy things. It’s bright, with a sappy and spicy edge, cranberry acidity and fine emery tannin, dark cherry and walnut, with a little blood orange zest on a finish of dried raspberry and spice. A lot of energy here, kind of nervy, but really good." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

"Forest berry, macerated wild strawberry, red cherry and cherry pit sit above bunchy, twiggy spice aromas. This is all underpinned by an attractive earthen savouriness that brings another dimension and level of complexity beyond the fruit and bunch notes, so impressive for such a young wine. The palate is cooling, compact and laser focused, though not at the expense of intensity and drive. A sappy texture wraps around red cherry, strawberry, bunch spice and earth, all of which seamlessly glide through the palate. Super fine sappy tannins and a latent lick of red fruited acidity lead to an earthy mouth perfume. Wonderful poise, complexity and balance of fruit and savoury nuance." - Tom Kline (Wine Pilot)

    Stylish Pinot Noir

Quite Burgundian in style - light to medium bodied and has a bit of structure, but with some lovely Tasmanian fruit. Oh, and made by a top shelf winemaker with plenty of runs on the board.

    Well worth the price

I found the wine superb, even in its youth. I'd spend the money again.

    Dr Edge Pinot Noir

An excellent example of cool climate Pinot noir with cherry and raspberry fruit and something a touch floral.

Dr. Edge

Peter Dredge is Dr. Edge. He is one of the most intuitive and talented winemakers on the Apple Isle.

With a wealth of experience garnered at wineries such as Bay of Fires, he has revitalised the Meadowbank label and returned it to its place as one of the must-watch vineyards in Tasmania.

Dr. Edge is his passion project where he can take risks and make Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & Riesling that truly excites him. His creativity can fly under the Dr. Edge banner and wines that walk a fine line of tension, funk and freshness invariably arise.

Only small batches of wine is produced, all made by hand, and typically they sell out in short order. Playful, pleasurable and remarkably thoughtful, the Dr. Edge creations are riveting things to drink and have rightfully earned cult status among collectors of Tasmania's finest.

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
