Description

L’Etoile translates to "the star," named for the tiny, five-armed starfish fossils scattered through the limestone here. It’s a beautiful pocket of the Jura, and Nicole Deriaux is the one of the stars of the village. We’ve been buying these wines for seven or so years now, and we reckon this 2022 is the best release we’ve seen yet.

It’s a masterclass in the traditional style. The wine spends three years in the cellar, two of those resting under a voile (a thin veil of flor yeast). This isn't just a technical quirk; it’s what builds the savoury layers of toasted hazelnut, cumin, and bruised apple.

While some Jura whites can feel heavy-handed, the 2022 has landed with a lovely lightness. It’s fresh, linear, and exactly the kind of firsky young Jura we love. The finish is all about that salty, sea-spray lift and a chalky grip that keeps you coming back for another splash. Absolute dynamite with a hunk of aged Comté.

"An impossibly excellent thing to drink, in a distinct style, with so much vitality in hand. Epic."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

96 points - "Distinct sea spray and fino sherry scents, green almond, curry powder, green apple, lime. The palate a salinity masterclass with savoury, nutty intensity, but the wine sits up so fresh, crystalline, even a sense of purity defying the oxidative handling. An impossibly excellent thing to drink, in a distinct style, with so much vitality in hand. Epic." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

Grapes: Chardonnay

Farming: Organic (not certified)

Aromatics: Hazelnuts, green apple and white fruits with fresh oxidative characters.

Palate: Generously textured yet balanced and fresh. A very approachable and vibrant Jura Chardonnay, plenty of complexity for this entry level cuvee from the Domaine. Packed with minerality, intensity of flavour and saline finish.

About the wine: A Jura Chardonnay beautifully aged in barrel with oxidative characters. Ageing 1 year in oak foudre were the wine is topped up. Then in 230 litre oak barrels, as well as 600 litre demi muid for 2 years under flor, not topped up.

When to drink: Now or in the next 10 years after vintage.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
