Description

Carrick’s estate Pinot comes from their organically farmed vineyards on the Cairnmuir Terraces beside the Kawarau River. It brings together parcels from across the property to give a complete picture of Bannockburn – dark-fruited, structured and full of character without excess weight.

The 2022 season was calm and balanced, producing fruit with good colour and fine, even tannins. The grapes were hand-picked, fermented with wild yeast in small open-top vats and matured in French oak, a small portion new, to add texture and length.

The wine shows Bannockburn’s typical depth – ripe cherry and plum layered with spice and a touch of earth. The tannins are firm and well-judged, carrying the wine through to a long, dry finish. Certified organic since 2008, Carrick continues to prove how much detail and life their vineyards can deliver.

The Bannockburn Pinot Noir is Carrick’s flagship wine — the purest expression of site and connection to place. Known for its structure and exceptional ability to age, the fruit is hand-picked from select estate vineyard parcels, averaging 28 years of vine age in 2022. A warm summer and replenishing autumn rains led into a dry, settled harvest period, producing excellent yields and outstanding fruit quality.

Winemaking
Comprising four distinct vineyard parcels and a mix of clones (10/5, 5, and 13), each lot was hand-picked at optimum ripeness, destemmed, and fermented separately. The wine spent 17–22 days on skins before being pressed and aged in French oak barriques for 10 months (19% new). Each barrel was hand-selected and blended, followed by six months of maturation in tank before bottling unfined and coarse-filtered.
