The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Gains Rouge is an elegant, finely crafted Pinot Noir that showcases the finesse of this premier cru site. The younger vines, planted in 2009, benefit from the vineyard's unique balance of clay and stones, lending the wine both refinement and a subtle richness.
On the nose, you’re greeted with delicate red fruit aromas—think wild raspberries and alpine strawberries—layered with floral notes of violets and a gentle spiciness.
The palate is beautifully detailed, with the red fruit carrying through alongside finely grained tannins that give the wine a graceful structure. There’s a lovely lift from the acidity, which keeps the wine precise without overpowering its softer, more delicate fruit character. The finish is long, offering a subtle hint of savoury minerality and just a touch of earth, adding complexity and depth without ever being too heavy.
This is a Pinot Noir that shows both the lightness and intensity typical of Caroline Morey’s style. It’s approachable now but will reveal more layers of complexity with a few years in the cellar. Drink from 2027 to 2034 to enjoy its full potential.
