Description

Crafted by Chris Catlow, one of Beechworth's most exciting winemakers, this Nebbiolo is all about capturing the subtleties of site and vintage.

It’s wonderfully aromatic: Red Delicious apples, Earl Grey tea, and a hint of those nostalgic purple wine gums. The palate follows with a burst of juicy red fruit upfront, but it’s the structure that truly shines. The tannins are fine and precise, lending the wine its backbone and an impressive sense of direction, taking you on a journey from the first sip to a long, elegant finish.

Sourced from a south-facing vineyard at 450 metres, planted on shale soils, this Nebbiolo benefits from a cool aspect that helps preserve freshness, giving the wine its ethereal edge. Chris’s hand in the cellar is gentle but assured—every decision geared towards preserving the natural character of the grapes, from harvest on April 7th to bottling.

Already compelling now, this Nebbiolo will reward those with the patience to cellar it. It’s a wine with intent, offering finesse and a layered complexity that unveils itself with time in the glass.

"This is so pretty!.. This is an exciting wine here. It's ashy, almost. Super."

"A wonderful juxtaposition here between nebbiolo florals, fruit and tannin/acidity... a wine that the longer it is open, the more it reveals layer upon layer of quiet intensity. Give it the time it needs."

"I looked at this over the course of a day and it became firmer and firmer without losing its freshness. It’a delightful wine; it’s an impressive one too."
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

95+ points - "This is so pretty! The 2021 Nebbiolo from Beechworth leads with rose petals and dried flowers, asphalt and ozone, dried rosemary and a hint of tobacco, graphite and black tea, black cherry and brine. On the palate, the wine is sensational; it offers us everything from the bouquet but framed in fine, willowy tannins that grip and are chalky across the palate. If it had a sound, it would be the scratching sound of ice skates on ice. It's firm, precise, tight, floral, mineral and almost febrile and ethereal. This is an exciting wine here. It's ashy, almost. Super." - Erin Larkin (The Wine Advocate)

95 points - "A wonderful juxtaposition here between nebbiolo florals, fruit and tannin/acidity. There's an imposing structural strength behind the delicacy of the florals and the concentration of fruit. It's early days, but the basis for an exciting, long-lived wine is here. Rose, anise, cranberry, cherry, dried flowers, earth and leaves introduce a wine that the longer it is open, the more it reveals layer upon layer of quiet intensity. Give it the time it needs." - Jeni Port (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - "I looked at this over the course of a day and it became firmer and firmer without losing its freshness. It’a delightful wine; it’s an impressive one too. It manages to feel light and deep at once; its blueberry and black cherry flavours look sideways at kirsch and blackberry jubes, its floral characters lean into lavender and toffee apple. Earth and tobacco-like characters are here too; it puts on a spread but in a seamless, structured way." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Red Delicious apple. Earl Grey tea. Purple wine gums.

An ethereal wine with intrigue and intent.

Aromatic fruit on the front palate; the tannins elevate and drive the wine. A nebbiolo with incredible focus and finesse.

Drinking well now but will reward cellaring.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
