Description

Exciting wine here, from the hands of winemaker Wes Pearson.

This Grenache comes from two top vineyards in McLaren Vale: one planted over 90 years ago in the Clarendon sub-region, and the other in Blewitt Springs. The value on offer here is outstanding.

It strikes that elusive balance between finesse and power effortlessly. If you like Grenache while it's rippling with primary fruit, there is plenty of joy to be had here already. However, if you are looking for something that will look all the better in a few years time, this will equally fit the bill.

Another wine to add to McLaren Vale's impressive list of excellent Grenache.

92 Points - "Red fruit, nougat oak shows its hand (like a Montelimar from a box of Milk Tray, though don’t mind me), mint, some ginger and spice. Juicy red fruits, mint/dill and a saline character, creamy chalk dust tannin, and the structure here is very good, but gee that oak comes as something of a surprise to me, and at present it’s a bit distracting, though maybe it will be fine and dandy for others. Anyway, seductive style, offering fruit of excellent quality. It may settle down with some more time in bottle." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

93 Points - "A sumptuous wine teeming with raspberry coulis, dried herbs, Seville orange and white pepper accents. Yet I can't extricate my senses from the whiff of smaller oak, used to be sure, but still palpable with its scent of sweet mocha from attack to finish. It adds that little bit of clutter, obfuscating the purity of site, the redoubtable quality of the fruit and the hand behind the wine while drying the finish." - Ned Goodwin MW (Halliday Wine Companion)

    Not their best vintage

3.9. Not as good as the 2018. Raspberry colour. Cola and confection and cranberry. Best served cold. Finish is medium length.

    Nothing dodgy about this drop!

This is a beautiful Grenache, not too much more to add on top of the reviews - a true bargain.

From the Wait Vineyard in Blewitt Springs and the Smart Vineyard in Clarendon. 2020 gave us minuscule yields, due to a third consecutive drought winter, and multiple weather events during flowering and fruit set. The result was a mere 0.45t harvest from the Wait vineyard and 1.2t from the Smart vineyard, harvested on the 11th and 23rd of March respectively. Although the crops were tiny, the quality was very high and the results can be seen in the wine.

Typical fruit concentration, balance and length associated with these vineyards and the subsequent wine. As always I just stay out of the way, and let these vineyards express themselves through the wine. Artwork by Adam Harriden – ‘Point Slider’.
