Description

"Angelo Gaja is, without question, the most famous wine producer in Italy. Possibly one of the most famous in the world. He is credited with developing techniques that revolutionised winemaking in Italy.
- International Wine Challenge

First bottled in 1970 and named after Angelo Gaja’s grandmother Clotilde Rey, Sorì Tildìn has always been a wine of nuance and inner strength. It’s grown on the upper slopes of the Roncagliette vineyard in Barbaresco - facing south, catching the light - and it’s here that Nebbiolo gets to show a more lifted, aromatic side of its personality.

In 2021, that site’s natural elegance meets the clarity and precision of a truly exceptional vintage. It’s a wine that doesn’t need to shout - there’s power, but it’s all coiled up in fine tannins, stony freshness, and long, savoury lines. Fermented in stainless, aged in oak, and bottled without fanfare, this is Gaja doing what they do best: turning great terroir into something quietly unforgettable.

You could drink this young, but really, it’s built for the long road. The detail and balance are already there - they’ll just keep unfolding.

98 points - "The 2021 Barbaresco Sorì Tildin is a real head-turner. What a wine. As is the case in its best years, Sorì Tildin is distinguished by its nuanced personality and detail. Everything speaks to finesse and fineness. Crushed rocks, rose petals, vibrant red fruit, chalk, mint and white pepper lend notable energy and brightness throughout. 2027–2041." - Antonio Galloni (Vinous.com, October 2024)

98 points - "Moderately saturated red. Complex, deep aromas of red cherry, crushed stones, nutmeg and cinnamon. Enters with ripe, sweet red fruit flavours and hints of red cherry, raspberry and cinnamon, then fresh and lifted with a more floral personality emerging. A very typical Sorì Tildin, this is both exotic and sultry, boasting a long, dense and minty-spicy finish. Drinking window: 2032–2042." - Ian D’Agata (iandagatawine.com, April 2024)

98 points - "A spiced profile emerges from the 2021 Barbaresco Sorì Tildin, which has a bright red color and offers notes of ripe black cherries, graphite, wet stones, and darker minerals. There’s more power and backbone in this wine, as well as more depth and structure. It’s remarkably focused, with ripe tannins, fantastic purity and balance, and ripe mineral undercurrents. These 2021s are some of the best wines I’ve ever tasted from Gaja, and this one has great potential for the long haul." - Audrey Frick (JebDunnuck.com, May 2024)

98 points - "Subtle and complex aromas of blackberries, pine needles, bark, light spices and violets. It’s really perfumed and attractive. Full-bodied and chewy, but the tannins are very, very fine. It goes on for minutes. This is a brooding, muscular wine but it is very refined. One for the cellar. Best after 2028." - JamesSuckling.com

97 points - "Thanks to its elegant minerality, this wine is often the easiest to recognize among the trio of single-vineyard Barbarescos made by the Gaja family. The 2021 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn offers a pretty combination of red and purple berry fruits followed by dusty tones of crushed graphite and pencil shaving. Those elements reinforce the lovely freshness and vertical brightness of Nebbiolo. The Sorì Tildìn tannins are linear, fine and chalky in texture." - Monica Larner (The Wine Advocate)

96 points - "Darker hued and more balsamic than the other Barbarescos, Gaja’s beguiling 2021 Sorì Tildin has enticing aromas recalling menthol, eucalyptus, dark spice, coffee bean, violet and graphite. On the palate, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity accompany raspberry tart, baking spice, rosemary, hazelnut and flinty mineral. Drink 2028–2036. Abv: 14%" - Kerin O'Keefe (KerinOkeefe.com, April 2024)

Gaja

The Gaja family has been producing wine in the hills of Barbaresco, Piedmont since 1859. But it was under the leadership of Angelo Gaja from the 1960s that the estate rose to global prominence, redefining what Italian fine wine could be. Today, his children - Gaia, Rossana, and Giovanni - are guiding the next chapter of the family legacy.

Gaja’s wines are a benchmark of modern Italian winemaking - bold, polished, and built for the long haul. Single-vineyard bottlings like Sorì Tildìn and Costa Russi broke new ground for Barbaresco, while plantings of Cabernet and Chardonnay challenged tradition and put Langhe on the world stage.

Beyond Barbaresco, the family now crafts celebrated wines from Bolgheri and Montalcino, and most recently, from the volcanic slopes of Etna under the IDDA label - a joint project with Alberto Graci that’s turning heads for its purity and poise. Wherever they go, Gaja remains a symbol of innovation, ambition, and Italian excellence.
