Description

There's an exciting new development for this great site, talented and accomplished winemaker Peter Dredge now bringing the wines from these vines back into the public space.

Dredge has a deft touch with Pinot Noir, combining elements of reductive funk and earth with dazzlingly bright and pure fruit character. This is a smashing Pinot Noir. One to keep a close eye on as Dredge continues to get to know the site.

Highly recommended for fans of premium Tasmanian Pinot Noir.

Originating from our Pinot Noir vines which Gerald Ellis planted in 1987, we hand-picked these grapes in three separate instalments, over a two to three week harvest period. Gerald and daughter Mardi, alongside our winemaker Peter Dredge, base their picking decisions predominantly on taste of the grapes alone, as they look for different stages of ripening, which later express as unique flavour characteristics come wine time.

In the winery, Pete allows each individual parcel of fruit to ferment on skins for two weeks, before the delicious red juice is pressed off and placed into French oak barrels (10% new). These barrels are put to bed for 9 months, before they are carefully blended to create the final masterpiece that now awaits you in bottle.

Think flavour, finesse and even more flavour! This wine has got us all really excited. From its vibrant colour in the glass, to its smell which just screams of Meadowbank, to its taste which is deep, savoury and complex - we are absolutely loving on it.

94 Points - ""Estate vines in the Derwent Valley; planted 1987; undergoing organic conversion; 3 picks with 0-50% whole bunches. Wild fermented; matured 9 months in 10% new French oak casks; unfined. A jubilant celebration of elegant, young pinot! Fresh, vibrant, primary and crunchy. Bountiful red cherries, poached strawberries and raspberries, elevated by the fragrant rose petal, potpourri and dried herb of nicely moderated whole-bunch fermentation. A long finish is charged equally by tangy morello cherry acidity as silky, fine-ground tannins. The quintessential lunchtime pinot." - Tyson Stelzer (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 Points - "Dark cherry, raspberry, wheatgerm and a slightly meaty reductive thing, along with subtle spice oak. It's medium-bodied, tight, distinctly 'minerally' in feel, with its cool acidity and graphite tannin, bony but flavoursome, with a long emery board finish. Classy. Excellent." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Meadowbank

Meadowbank is one of the oldest vineyards in Tasmania with the Ellis family having farmed this site since 1976.

This is one of the most important sites on the Apple Isle.

After taking a brief hiatus from producing their own wines, Meadowbank now has the formidable talents of winemaker Peter Dredge at their disposal.

With Dredge in the winemaking hot seat, Meadowbank is set to be one of the benchmark producers in Tasmania for many years to come.

Ordering

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.
  • The price match cannot be used in conjunction with a coupon or one-off deal we are offering. The idea is for you to get the best price in the market so if that is already achieved through a coupon then we won't price match on top of that.
  • We don't price match clearance or fire sales.
  • We’ll match the listed price as long as it is a legitimate offer and the competing store is actually able to fulfil the order (they have stock or more stock is en route). Essentially we won't price match cheeky vendors listing wines they have no hope of actually getting for you...
  • It must be a publicly listed price. We won't match a price that has been achieved through a coupon/cash-back arrangement, or through a non-advertised offer over the phone or otherwise.
  • It is limited to a reasonable retail quantity.

We'll treat each price match request on its merit and reserve the right to refuse where we deem fit. For example, particularly rare wines, from non-trust-worthy vendors, in circumstances we deem illegitimate or if we feel our policy is being unfairly taken advantage of.

At the end of the day, we'll look after you and use common sense to ensure you're getting the best price, please just don't take the p%$$!

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.

To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you want to bulk order gifts or if you have any trouble please email hello@differentdrop.com or call and we can try and help.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
