Madness. Would be so good with salmon sashimi and the like. Delicious, umami style wine.

About The Wine

Savoury dry rose from central Japan full of intrigue and enjoyment.

From the Misawa vineyard, a Bordeaux-blend of Merlot, Cab Sauvignon and Cab Franc, some direct pressed, some saignee method (some grape juice bled off while making red wine)./p>

Peppery, herbal, red-fruited and almost painfully intense and earnest for a Rose. Some graphitey, ferrous grip and a long piercing finish.

About Grace Vineyard

Grace Wine was founded by Chotaro Misawa in the Katsunuma village in 1923.

Today, the wines are made by his great, great granddaughter, Ayana, who has worked in top wineries from Australia to France in an effort to increase her wine knowledge and bring a higher level of expertise to her family's winery.

Grace implements a more progressive viticultural program than is the norm in Japan, which has made them the benchmark for quality in the small Japanese winemaking community. These are elegant wines that speak quietly and beautifully of a culture that is just coming of age on the world stage for wine.

From The Producer

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc grown at the Misawa Vineyard without herbicides or chemical fertilizers are separated into small lots and are fermented separately by direct pressing and the Saignée methods, followed by maturation in old French oak barrels. By doing so, the wine expresses both the complexity of the varietal characters and the sense of place. While the taste honestly reflects the cool climate of the production area at 700m, this single vineyard rosé cultivated with low yield is rare in the world, and the complexity and the richness of the fruit can be clearly felt.

This wine was born in 2008, from the desire of the viticulturalist-winemaker to make a dry rosé with structure in Japan.

The Wine Front

"Watermelon, redcurrant, sansho pepper, blood orange. Juicy, spicy, distinct fern like character, a lick of tannin, pepper and strawberries, powdery texture and good length. Dry crunch. Outré but really good. Madness. Would be so good with salmon sashimi and the like. Delicious, umami style wine." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
