2023 Mount Mary Quintet

The iconic Mount Mary Quintet is one of the jewels of the Yarra Valley.

A blend of the five Bordeaux varieties, planted side-by-side on one of the Yarra's most revered sites. This personifies the medium-bodied, regal style of Cabernet blends from this region.

The perfectly ripe fruit for this wine was masterfully guided to bottle by young family winemaker, Sam Middleton.

A thing of real beauty. A thing of class. A wine for the cellar to be marvelled at for decades to come.

"This Bordeaux blend with New World freshness is built for the ages, yet offers plenty of early drinking appeal. What a wine"
- Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)

97 points
"Like all great Mount Mary Quintets this will age gracefully over the next two decades but, given a good decant, is also balanced an approachable enough to enjoy in its youth."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

2023 Mount Mary Pinot Noir

The fastest wine to sell out each year from Mount Mary is the Pinot Noir. It's a wine that excels regardless of the vagaries of the vintage.

As Sam Middleton explains, "We often find our Pinots made in the warmer vintages surprise us the most when tasted in vertical lineups. We believe this speaks to the uniqueness of our site, in particular the cold nights we experience during the growing season here at Mount Mary."

It's a wine that blossoms with time in the cellar. Each vintage shows structure, power and grace.

98 points & Pinot Noir of the Year
"Bright purple. Youthful with complex aromas of wild strawberry, boysenberry, potpourri, star anise and a little Sichuan pepper, even. Even better on the palate where old vines and low yields have conspired (along with the winemaker, Sam Middleton) to produce a supremely textured, layered and flawlessly balanced wine. The tannins are silky and very persistent, and this will be worth both the money and time for those that still have some 10–20 years from now."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

96 points
"A high level of polish, offering a silken mouthfeel with no hard edges. Underlying notes of dried flowers, lead pencils, crushed blueberries and bark. Pure and refined, with dark, savory and brooding undertones."
- Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)

"There’s a bit of extra electricity and energy to this wine, and I reckon it will be a beautiful thing with considered cellaring."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

2023 Mount Mary Chardonnay

The famed old vines on the Mount Mary estate yield some of the finest Chardonnay in the district.

Sensitive winemaking from Sam Middleton and respect for the fruit is at the core of this wine. Sam looks to support the Chardonnay with high quality oak, a relatively hard pressing to extract more in the way of texture and some lees stirring. Malo is avoided to retain acid purity. Finesse is the name of the game here.

Sam Middleton pulls together an exceptional Yarra Chardonnay. It's wines like this that really showcase just how marvellous Aussie wines can be - he's truly nailed it.

"A wonderful balance of power and restraint, with complex aromas sitting on the edge of reduction — preserved lemons, lanolin, honeysuckle, struck matches, crushed stones, citrus blossoms and white stone fruits. The palate has seamless texture and weight, in harmony with a core of fruit-supported, tightly wound acidity and a mineral drive. The concentration leaves you salivating for minutes. Great nerve and tension bring this wine together. Truly excellent."
- Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)

97 points
"A concentrated Mount Mary Chardonnay where the volume has been turned up in '23! An intense bouquet of white peach, confit lemon, fresh vanilla bean and oyster shells. There's a lot going on and this follows perfectly onto the mouth-filling, powerful, structured and harmonious palate. This will give pleasure for at least 10 if not 15-plus years."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

"This is a rich and zesty wine. Gee, it has some power... So much flavour, yet tightly coiled and fine. Outstanding."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

2023 Mount Mary Triolet

The Mount Mary Triolet is a wine inspired by the great white blends of Bordeaux.

The vineyard is planted to 75% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Semillon and 5% Muscadelle. Each variety is picked at perfect ripeness, then vinified in essentially the same way as their Chardonnay with 100% barrel ferment (in mostly older oak), some solids from firm pressing and lees stirring employed over the 11 months it rests in barrel before bottling.

It is a tightly wound, beautifully balanced example of this cult favourite wine, showing the restraint and finesse that is typical of the best Triolets. The ideal season in the Yarra allowing plenty of flavour development and pristine acidity through the wine.

This is a top example of why this is considered one of the country's finest examples of the Bordeaux Blanc style.

99 points
"An outstanding release, perhaps the best I’ve tasted in the last two decades... Truly exceptional and unique and arguably the finest interpretation of Bordeaux blanc in this region."
- Ryan Montgomery (James Suckling)

97 points
"If you have never tasted this wine, you are missing out on what I have long regarded as one of the Yarra Valley's, and indeed Australia's, finest white wines."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 points
"a zesty citrus rind finish of excellent length. There’s pink grapefruit with a sweet green capsicum flavour to close. Very nice. Very specific. Yum, in short."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
