About the Wine

Corofin love to make wines that tell a story about Marlborough; they set out to make wines that reflect the passion and dedication of the grape growers in the vineyards, maintaining the integrity and uniqueness of fruit from each site.

The organically certified Settlement Vineyard is located just south of Marlborough's Wairau Plains. The fruit for this cuvee is picked first, giving it a red-fruited and youthful radiance.

It's a beautiful, smooth wine - seductively silky and delicate, it's a winner.

About Meltwater/ Corofin

Corofin is the ongoing project from the hugely likeable Mike Paterson, who is dedicated to making the best single vineyards wines in Marlborough, in a region where that is a true rarity.

According to Mike - "our ambition with all Corofin wines is to transmit a sense of place first, over fruit intensity or winemaking ambition. We have chosen to work with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay being the two varietals we believe will amplify the transparent expression we seek from the land.

We are excited to be working with trusted and admired friends as growers. Their vineyards are all located in Marlborough's southern valleys and we hope our little Pinot Project will shine a light on some pretty special spots in the region our family calls home."

From the Producer

Dog Point's 18-year-old Settlement Vineyard is located in the Omaka Valley, to the south of Marlborough's Wairau Plains. This organically certified site is managed by Dog Point's gun viticulturist, Nigel Sowman. Picked first, Settlement is typically the most red-fruited and youthfully radiant of the Corofin Pinot Noir trio, although it has plenty of intensity.

Whole berries were placed in a sealed tank for five days at ambient temperature. Fermentation lasted a further seven days before the wine was transferred to seasoned French oak. So, just 12 days on skins all-up. Bottled unfined and unfiltered after 13 months in barrel and a further seven months in tank. A fascinating contrast to the Wrekin Vineyard Pinot, this has a gentler feel, and offers gorgeous aromas of pure red berry fruit, cinnamon spice, rose petals and a lick of forest floor. The mouthfeel is as smooth as silk, relying as much on its fine thread of acidity as its delicate web of tannin. It finishes long and lithe with an orange-like twist on the finish. Pretty as a peach

"From a north-facing hillside vineyard in the clay-rich soils of the Omaka Valley. Delicately-scented pinot noir with red cherry, raspberry, violet, spice and anise flavours. A wine of subtle power with an impressively lingering finish. Deserves to be aerated" - Bob Campbell (The Real Review)
