Description

Single vineyard Grenache from Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale from the outstanding 2018 vintage, that is at both cellarworthy and powerful, and delicate and weightless.

The 97 Point Wine Front review sums the wine up beautifully - it's an ethereal McLaren Vale Grenache, which is a sentence no-one could have written twenty years ago.

Very limited stock, as you can imagine.

"First and foremost, it's a wine that's defined by its ultra-mineral quality and quartz-like tannin. In with that, you have ripe red berries, seductive potpourri perfume, peanuts, a little biscuit and baking spice, along with some sage and aniseed. It's medium-bodied, fresh, but firm and packed with stony/chalky tannin, ample fruit, though nothing sweet or overt. Finish is long, dry and firm, almost a Barolo-like quality to it (which is no bad thing, of course). It feels like a long-term wine, and should probably be left alone for a year or two, at least. I'd say it's a benchmark for Grenache."
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

97 Points - "Robert Rende helped his father plant this vineyard (Blewitt Springs) back in 1969, and now lives there. It was a single pick, single ferment, single demi muid that “possessed the qualities I'm searching for with V. Power structure and finesse while staying light on its feet.”, says winemaker Michael Corbett. I think total production was around 300 bottles, and will be finished with a wax cap. Not sure of the final pricing, though I suspect (well) north of $150.First and foremost, it's a wine that's defined by its ultra-mineral quality and quartz-like tannin. 95 Points - "Always a delicious suite, picked on a dangerous edge of ripeness at times, but largely getting away with it. Here, the zenith. Skeletally defined as much by pinprick tannins - spindle, wiry brush and bone - as much as the fruit. A glimpse of Blewitt Springs' violet and kirsch, but more about sandalwood, bergamot, clove, cardamom and anise. A peacock-tail spread across the palate, with moreish tannins and juicy acidity a detailed exclamation of true quality." - Ned Goodwin MW (Halliday Wine Companion)

Driven by a passion for creating wines with intrigue, 'V' is about pushing the boundaries of ‘status quo' wine making and viticulture. Wines that are delicious, textural and enticing.

In an industry that is awash with overly commercialised wines produced by corporates who take up all the elbow room, shout noisily across the table and flood the market with mass produced wine that are often guised as ‘boutique wines', we wish to make a humble stand and be vanguardist in our methods.

'

V' is a nod to the small guys looking to keep it real, forever striving to unlock the imagination and inspire those with curious palates.

Vanguardist

Vanguardist is an up and coming producer from McLaren Vale started by three friends after many long nights in Hawkes Bay talking about their shared love of wine.

Their mission is to bring premium, authentic, small-batch wines to a market they see as crowded by "overly commercialised wines produced by corporates who take up all the elbow room."

They source very high-quality fruit from great vineyards across South Australia, looking to build wines with texture and vibrancy.

With experienced winemaker Michael Corbett at the helm, the future looks bright for this plucky challenger brand.
