Description

Michael Corbett has a bit of an obsession with the Rhône, so it’s no surprise him showcasing Grenache Gris and Blanc from the Barossa. These are the white mutations of the Grenache family, sourced from 13-year-old vines in Vine Vale. Michael is working with third-generation grower Paul Rohlach to shift this site toward organics.

The winemaking here is all about building texture without losing these varieties' natural freshness. The fruit was foot-crushed and left on skins for a few hours before a wild fermentation split between Hungarian amphora and stainless steel. It went through full malolactic fermentation to round out the palate, then spent seven months ageing in a new Austrian foudre.

When we tasted this, we were struck by the almost "Spanish" energy of it - it’s got that waxiness and saltiness you find in great white Grenache from across the globe. It leads with a mix of stone fruit and a subtle, nutty complexity from the amphora time. At 12.2% alcohol, it’s remarkably fresh but has a real sense of weight and "chew" to the finish. It’s a serious, contemporary white that offers something completely different for the Barossa.

"Michael Corbett has had near a decade of vintages in the Rhône, which informs the dominant varietal mix in the portfolio, if his interpretations are profoundly individual. A new wine, from Vine Vale... An excellent debut, and you can feel the potential for greater heights."
- Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

"Light, fine chalkiness, saline, pulls more citrus with some nutty things, has some gloss but keeps itself tight, finishes bright and gently salty with excellent length. Such a great drink. Balance is all just so."

95 points - "Michael Corbett has had near a decade of vintages in the Rhône, which informs the dominant varietal mix in the portfolio, if his interpretations are profoundly individual. A new wine, from Vine Vale, with vines grafted in '23; 62/38% grenache gris/grenache blanc. It’s a sunnier expression than the Vanguardist norm, but that’s a varietal thing, and perhaps more blanc than gris. Up front, yellow orchard fruits – pear, peach, apple – then the detail kicks in with fresh, soft fennel seeds and pollen, chamomile flower, green almond, roasted hazelnut skin, citron pith and preserved lemon. A lemon-barley-water texture, salivating, savoury. An excellent debut, and you can feel the potential for greater heights." - Marcus Ellis (Halliday Wine Companion)

94 points - 62% Grenache Gris. 38% Grenache Blanc. Half fermented in stainless steel, the other half in Hungarian anfora. Some aged in new Austrian foudre, the rest in stainless steel. Pear, white nectarine, white flower, a rock pool/marine sort of thing, toasted hazelnut, spice. Light, fine chalkiness, saline, pulls more citrus with some nutty things, has some gloss but keeps itself tight, finishes bright and gently salty with excellent length. Such a great drink. Balance is all just so." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

SINGLE SITE: ROHLACH VINEYARD, VINE VALE, BAROSSA VALLEY

Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris, key white mutations of the Grenache family and pillars of Southern Rhône blends. The introduction of this new wine reflects our continued focus on Rhône varieties and our deep connection to Grenache in all its forms.

62% GRIS | 38% BLANC

VINEYARD:
Paul Rohlach, a third-generation grower whose grandfather first purchased the land in 1954. Fruit taken from 13 year old vines that were grafted to Grenache Gris in 2022 and Grenache Blanc in 2023. We are currently working closely with Paul to transition the vineyard toward more organic practices, including the complete cessation of herbicide use and the elimination of mid-row tillage to improve soil health and long-term sustainability.

VINTAGE:
2024 vintage in the Barossa is characterized by exceptional quality, intense color, and rich tannins, despite low yields caused by windy conditions during flowering.

HARVEST:
Hand harvested on the 8th February 2025
Fruit thin at veraison to maintain crop levels below 45 HL/Ha

VINIFICATION:
Whole bunches were foot-crushed and held on skins for three hours prior to pressing. Fermentation occurred spontaneously, with half fermented in Hungarian amphora and the other half in inox.

Full malolactic to further enhance body and texture. The wine was blended and aged for a further seven months, mostly in a new Austrian Foudre and remaining balance retained in inox.

Vanguardist

Vanguardist is an up and coming producer from McLaren Vale started by three friends after many long nights in Hawkes Bay talking about their shared love of wine.

Their mission is to bring premium, authentic, small-batch wines to a market they see as crowded by "overly commercialised wines produced by corporates who take up all the elbow room."

They source very high-quality fruit from great vineyards across South Australia, looking to build wines with texture and vibrancy.

With experienced winemaker Michael Corbett at the helm, the future looks bright for this plucky challenger brand.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
