Description

The Oeno Grenache shows exactly why Michael Corbett is regarded as one of the country’s finest interpreters of Blewitt Springs. From 54-year-old bush vines rooted in deep sand on the Rende Vineyard, this is Grenache that trades weight for precision, delivering clarity, texture and drive.

Handpicked fruit was fermented with 60% whole bunches, then matured for 15 months in a mix of French oak puncheons and a 1,500L concrete sphere. It’s fragrant and energetic, with red cherry, cranberry and spice lifted by subtle herbal and floral notes. The tannins are fine and shaping, giving the wine both line and persistence.

Oeno may be the entry point to the Vanguardist range, but it has all the class and polish of the top wines. Pure, focused and effortlessly drinkable, it’s another masterclass in modern McLaren Vale Grenache.

"It’s lighter and breezier than the V Grenache, and I’d expect that’s kind of the point. Very nice. So stylish."

This is 60% whole bunch, old puncheons and a 1500L concrete sphere. Rende vineyard, Blewitt Springs. 50+ year old vines.

Cherry, peanuts, mint and dried flowers, spice. It’s medium-bodied, an earthy and savoury character, a little meaty too, with fine-grained dusty tannin grip, a pomegranate tang in with red berries, nutty, spicy and peppery on a finish of excellent length. It’s lighter and breezier than the V Grenache, and I’d expect that’s kind of the point. Very nice. So stylish.

    Juicy and Delicious

Australia is one of the best Grenache producing countries in the world and the renditions from SA and the Blewitt Springs region absolutely singular and world class. Vanguardist is a superb maker, this has gorgeous fruit, texture and lip-smacking savouriness. It's medium bodied and an all round crowd pleaser. Excellent wine.

From the home block Rende Vineyard, 54 year old bush vines on deep sand. A warm finish to vintage delivery reds with excellent structure, depth, and palate length. 60% whole-bunch fermentation followed by aging in 1500L concrete sphere and french oak puncheons for 15 months. Another extraordinary Grenache from Corbett, expressive fruit with refinement and complexity and a driving bead of tannin.

Vanguardist

Vanguardist is an up and coming producer from McLaren Vale started by three friends after many long nights in Hawkes Bay talking about their shared love of wine.

Their mission is to bring premium, authentic, small-batch wines to a market they see as crowded by "overly commercialised wines produced by corporates who take up all the elbow room."

They source very high-quality fruit from great vineyards across South Australia, looking to build wines with texture and vibrancy.

With experienced winemaker Michael Corbett at the helm, the future looks bright for this plucky challenger brand.
