A phenomenal set of wines on offer here for you today from Luis Seabra, the "rock star" winemaker out of the Douro Valley in Portugal.
Luis forged a formidable reputation for crafting some of the region's finest table wines and fortifieds during his 10-year tenure as winemaker at the regional standard-bearer, Niepoort.
The launch of his eponymous label in 2012 was his chance to make wines in his own style. He took off at break-neck pace and was met with immediate praise from the wine media making brand Luis Seabra some of the hottest property out of Portugal today. Since garnering wide acclaim for his cuveés, Seabra has reinvigorated international attention toward his home.
The latest reviews for his suite of new releases from the likes of Jancis Robinson MW, Huon Hooke and Mike Bennie are fantastic. We loved them for their originality and undeniable quality and know you will too.
These are fascinating, intricate table wines crafted from old vineyards sporting a myriad of local Portuguese varieties from along the famed Douro terraces.
The high altitude and dry climate of the Douro make for ideal conditions for finding the focus and tension Seabra seeks in his creations. The reds show exotic spice and dense mineral tannin. The other-worldly whites show incredible texture, precision and energy.
They are some of the most exciting and delicious things to come across our tasting bench in a while. Only small amounts were imported to Australia and they are never available for long. Check out this star of the Portuguese avant-garde wine movement while stocks last.
