Larry Jacobs and his Hahndorf Hill team are pioneers in Australia when it comes to this classic Austrian grape variety, Grüner Veltliner.
Back in 2010, they were the first to produce a Gruner in South Australia and they've been championing it ever since. The GRU Gruner Veltliner has swept up huge accolades, trophies and awards ever since this debut, with the latest 2022 release getting 96 points from James Halliday as well as securing a place in his list of Top 100 Wines of 2022.
DD co-founder Tom Hollings fell in love with this wine and producer after first visiting the Hahndorf Hill cellar door and meeting HH main man Larry Jacobs a decade ago, and he rates the 2022 as the best vintage he’s tasted yet. In our opinion this is the best expression of Gruner Veltliner in Australia, and at only $30 a bottle for a wine of this interest, complexity and sheer deliciousness, it's an absolute steal.

Their bargain Gruner offering, the White Mischief, also finds itself highly regarded by critics and is a perfect entry point into the variety that Jacobs and team find themselves enamoured by. Each vintage going back to the 2015 has picked up a trophy at a major competition - a remarkable feat for a wine of this price - and this new release from the sensational 2022 vintage may be the best yet.
