There's a little something here for everyone and great value to boot.
2018 Dormilona Clayface Pet Nat
Jo Perry is back with a super-limited release of a Pet-Nat under her much-loved Clayface label.
This is a super funky, chunky, fizzy, crazy little wine. Chenin packing in the flavour, the amphora work souping up the texture.
No additions at any point for this wine. From the vine, to the clay pot, to the bottle, nothing added and nothing taken away. It's a crazy small make, and won't be around for long.
If you're digging on the Pet-Nat wave washing over our shores, Jo's is a must try.Read more about 2018 Dormilona Clayface Pet Nat
2018 Stargazer Tupelo
Sam Connew is an excellent winemaker and her rising Tasmanian label, Stargazer, is definitely one to watch.
'Tupelo' is her Alsatian-inspired blend of Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Riesling. This is a very well-constructed version of this classic aromatic blend, with good acidity and a touch of grip to offset the natural fruit sweetness of these expressive varieties.
It's delicious, interesting and good value, the perfect wine to tuck into alongside a plate of fresh shellfish or sashimi.
Sam's wines are only made in small quantities so get in quick!Read more about 2018 Stargazer Tupelo
2018 Unico Zelo Jade & Jasper Fiano
The Unico Zelo owner/winemaking dynamic duo of Brendan and Laura Carter are hugely passionate about Fiano, and they wholeheartedly believe in this variety's suitability to Australia's climate and culture.
So do we, it's a winner.
This comes from the ancient sandy limestone soils on the iconic Ricca Terra Farms vineyard in the Riverland region of South Australia. Like in previous years it's a wonderfully textural wine, but I reckon this release seems a little more balanced and even clean-cut than the '17.
It looks the goods. All up it's delicious to drink, perfectly built for enjoying with food and great value for money.Read more about 2018 Unico Zelo Jade & Jasper Fiano
2018 Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown Pret-a-Rosé
VS&B continue to kick goals with each new release. Here comes their Rosé, right on point.
This blend of Pinot Noir and Shiraz is a must-try for lovers of dry, savoury Rose. It was made naturally with no additions except a little sulphur. Hand picked, basket pressed straight into, as Tessa puts it, "oooooooold barriques".
Rosé continues to grow in popularity and with so many easy-to-love examples like this out there at the moment, it's not hard to see why.Read more about 2018 Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown Pret-a-Rosé
2017 Billy Button The Affable Barbera
If you have never tried the Billy Button wines, this is a great introduction to what Jo Marsh is all about: Alpine Valley fruit masterfully handled, bundled up with incredible value.
Over the last few years this has garnered a reputation as one of the most drinkable Barberas in the country. The key here is balance. Where other Aussie Barbera can be a little wishy-washy this hits the nail on the head. Jo says, "It is now one of my most popular wines and one of my most consistent" and it rightfully has been the fastest of her range to sell out each year.
Don't miss out on this charismatic little red from one of the Alpine Valleys' finest.Read more about 2017 Billy Button The Affable Barbera
2016 Mayford Grapes of Wrath Shiraz
It's such a close-knit community amongst wine growers and makers in North-East Victoria.
When a horrific storm decimated the Mayford vineyard in 2016, local producers came to Eleana and Bryn's rescue.
Peter Bartholomew and Donna Pelka of the Wanted Man vineyard in Heathcote donated some Shiraz, as did Bob McNamara from the Alpine Valleys, a little fruit from the Indigo vineyard in Beechworth also found its way to Mayford. Eleana put the pieces together and the resulting wine is fabulous.
A testament to the resilience of the small wine growers of North-East Victoria.
Campbell Mattinson rated it 93 points. If you're a Mayford fan, this is great value Shiraz from them with a heart-warming backstory.Read more about 2016 Mayford Grapes of Wrath Shiraz
