2021 Lyons Will Riesling
"It's a very serious riesling, and delicious."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
The Lyons Will Riesling is a opulent example of the variety built around luscious mouthfeel as opposed to the sheer racy acidity that characterises so many younger Australian Rieslings.
The long, cool growing season in the Macedon Ranges allows the intensity of flavour to develop in the fruit before over-ripe sugars become an issue for Ollie and Renata. The benefit of these marginal climates clearly show in this unique interpretation of the variety.
This is raised in old barrels adding another level of depth and textural intrigue to the finished. The fine, mineral-charged acidity still rings clear, but it's complimented by sheets of honeyed flavour and a fine powdery grip.
A delicious, decadent Riesling on offer here from one of the Macedon's most exciting operations.Read more about 2021 Lyons Will Riesling
2020 Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown Weide Sauvignon
The Sauvignon Blanc in Schmolzer & Brown's 'One-Off Series' comes from the Willow Lake vineyard in the Yarra, and it is an intriguing and enticing rendition of a popular favourite.
Naturally-fermented, aged in oak puncheons, on lees for almost a year, and only a dash of sulphur the only addition - this is Natty Yarra.
It sure is intense - smoky, creamy, and a touch feral on the nose, and searingly tight and flinty on the palate.
A wine of mystery and revelation!Read more about 2020 Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown Weide Sauvignon
2021 Dormilona Chardonnay
Jo Perry's 'lazy bones' winemaking style is yielding some excellent results in Chardonnay from Margaret River.
This is fruit picked from a naturally farmed vineyard in the Wallcliffe sub-region. It shows pure, persistent fruit, with only the suggestion of support from a demi-muid and some older barriques.
It's a natural feeling Chardonnay of utter class and sophistication. An original and authentic take on a classic Australian wine staple.
This is Margaret River Chardonnay presented naked and unadorned.Read more about 2021 Dormilona Chardonnay
2021 Unico Zelo Pipe Dream Nero d'Avola
Ask Unico Zelo winemaker Brendan Carter the reason for the name 'Pipe Dream' for this wine and he chuckles, explaining that he has a pipe dream that one day Nero d'Avola will be planted more widely in Australian than Shiraz.
Maybe one day!
This wine is all about exploring what Nero can do from a cooler climate in the Adelaide Hills (Birdwood specifically) as opposed to its usual warmer Aussie homes of Heathcote, McLaren Vale and Riverland.
The resulting wine is impressive, pulsating with both brightness and concentration, whilst never losing its natural acidity.
Not a lot made, but absolutely delicious! The perfect drop for when you're feeling a little fancy.Read more about 2021 Unico Zelo Pipe Dream Nero d'Avola
2021 Billy Button The Alluring Tempranillo
"It's so fresh, so well balanced, so well fruited and ultimately so silken."
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
Jo Marsh's Billy Button 'The Alluring' Tempranillo is a classic cool-climate Temp with a little attitude.
Jo selects two parcels of fruit each year from two different vineyards in her beloved Alpine Valleys. One parcel has fruit which is a little brighter, the other a little more savoury. Together they create just the right amount of 'allure' in the wine, a Tempranillo which is ready to go, right now, whenever you are.
Made in typically small amounts (as is the Billy Button way), you'll need to be quick if you want to give this a whirl.Read more about 2021 Billy Button The Alluring Tempranillo

"A lovely, delightful, charming red of softness and spice and grip and density."

Filled with dark berry fruited-goodness and a sprinkling of pepper and spice (and all things nice), this is an elegant wine. Silky, graceful, with masterfully integrated oak, it's a Shiraz lovers dream.
