2018 Crawford River Young Vines Riesling
There are a few names associated with Australia's best Rieslings, Crawford River is right at the top of that list.
This 'Young Vine' example is designed to be fresh, pure and energetic, but with the vines now over 15 years of age there is plenty of depth and concentration there too.
The 2018 vintage is a classic release of the usual high standard from the Crawford River cellar.
It is incredible to find such purity, such precision, such complexity in Riesling at this price. And with every year that passes, this 'Young Vine' offering becomes better value for money. Put simply, a delicious wine from an iconic Aussie Riesling producer!Read more about 2018 Crawford River Young Vines Riesling
2017 Billy Button The Feisty Friulano
Here we have Jo Marsh's 'The Feisty' Friulano, yet another alternative Italian variety doing good things in her beloved Alpine Valleys.
The grape originates from Friuli in North-East Italy, where it makes quite full-bodied and richly flavoured wines. There's only a handful of Friulano in Australia. This has all of that intensity and texture but like all of Jo's wines, they are so refreshing and seamlessly balanced.
This sees a little skin contact to give a little grippiness to the palate and extract a little more flavor. Only tiny volumes made and more than generous price. It's unique, so complex, so very tasty.Read more about 2017 Billy Button The Feisty Friulano
2019 Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown Grauburgunder
This is the first venture into amber winemaking for Tessa and Jeremy at VS&B.
This is the way Pinot Gris should be treated. The Graüburgunder (German for Pinot Gris) spends a goodly time on skins before being pressed, allowing the natural colour and tannin of the variety to shine.
It's an excellent first crack at the wine style. There's loads of fresh stonefruit and florals to be enjoyed, yet the flavours are fresh and crisp, with clean acidity and plenty of definition.
So many producers are trying their hand at orange winemaking at the moment, this is one of the most successful debut releases we've seen.Read more about 2019 Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown Grauburgunder
2019 Dormilona Rosado
Rosado is a much-loved wine style in Spain.
The easy drinkability and refreshing crispness of these wines mesh so well with the Spanish culture. Much like ours, here in Australia. Here, Jo Perry tries to capture the essence of Rosado.
This is 100% Tempranillo from a block not far from the Dormilona winery. It's made classically: whole bunch pressed to a combination of barrels and tanks with a little amphora action as well, gently worked during ferment and then stirred for three months after.
It's spicy and bristling with personality. The perfect wine to take on long lunches on warm days.Read more about 2019 Dormilona Rosado
2019 Unico Zelo Jungle Jungle
The Jungle Jungle (formerly Cherry Fields) has become one of the most popular wines in the UZ range over the last couple of vintages, and it's in top form again.
Once again it comes from the Polish Hill River sub-region of the Clare Valley, a place Brendan and Laura Carter love sourcing fruit from. When you think Dolcetto you think sweet, fruity reds, but this is anything but.
Wildly aromatic, vibrantly juicy and surprisingly structural, this is a lot of wine built into not a lot of body. The Carters recommend this wine for "eating with your hands", and 20 minutes in the fridge would do it no harm at all. It's different, yes, but most of all it's just one of those reds that is near impossible to put down.Read more about 2019 Unico Zelo Jungle Jungle
