2020 Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown Weide Sauvignon
The Sauvignon Blanc in Schmolzer & Brown's 'One-Off Series' comes from the Willow Lake vineyard in the Yarra, and it is an intriguing and enticing rendition of a popular favourite.
Naturally-fermented, aged in oak puncheons, on lees for almost a year, and only a dash of sulphur the only addition - this is Natty Yarra.
It sure is intense - smoky, creamy, and a touch feral on the nose, and searingly tight and flinty on the palate.
A wine of mystery and revelation!

This fantastically textural and refreshing Semillon Sauvignon Blanc comes from the loving and brightly nail-polished hands of Richard and Carla Betts, two travelling American ex-Sommeliers who have a deep love for the great wines of the world made from these varieties.
The Semillon fruit is grown by gnarled old bush vines in the sandy soils of the Vine Vale sub-region of the Barossa. A splash of SB from the Adelaide Hills adds a little pop and crackle to the finished wine.
The fruit is fermented in seasoned oak barrels for ten months at low temperatures. With that amount of time in oak, the waxy, creamy textural components of barrel ageing impart another layer to what is quite vibrant and aromatic Semillon with plenty of zip and crunch.
Inspired bu the great white wines of Bordeaux, this is a seriously good and seriously interesting take on old vine Barossa Semillon which will be beautifully with a wide range of foods.

A real cult favourite amongst those who've tracked the Carters from the beginning: the Esoterico is the wild child of the UZ range...
With Brendan and Laura's experience with this style of wine a little richer now, the execution of this skin contact white is on another level.
Supercharged aromatics from the Zibibbo, Moscato Giallo, Gewurztraminer & Greco, with a little boost to the mouthfeel from their old friend Fiano. They've certainly nailed this recipe, and it's no wonder it's become such a cult favourite for fans of this South Australian duo.
Orange in colour and cloudy as all get out, it lives up to its esoteric name but with oodles of drinkability. That's what skinsy whites should all be about.

Margan have quickly become the place to be for fans of the growing 'alternative variety' category in the Hunter. While their work with more appropriate varieties and sustainable viticulture has to be applauded, it's really how approachable and drinkable their wines are which really impresses.
This was harvested as a field blend, all at the same, with the Tempranillo, Graciano and Shiraz all at varying levels of ripeness. The wine carries an array of ripe and vegetative flavours, from ripe cherries, dusty spices, toasted nuts and green twigs. So, while it has plenty of depth and complexity to warrant mid-term cellaring, there is enough freshness and friendliness that you could easily drink this with your next barbecue.

Jo Marsh is a virtuoso winemaker when it comes to nursing Italian varieties to bottle.
The problem with many Australian examples of Sangiovese is that they lack vibrancy, but that is absolutely not the case here. This is a juicy, loveable version of Sangiovese with plenty of charm.
Jo uses two different clones from a vineyard in the Alpine Valley to get just the right amount of light and shade in this release.
If you're looking for the perfect pizza night wine, this is pretty hard to go past.

Born and bred locals Chad and Gee Connolly at White Gate Wine Co have diverted from the norm of the 90s and released a softly-delicious, approachable style of Cabernet, that shows the lighter side of the Barossa Valley.
Lightly herbal, with gentle but ripe tannins playing around a succulent cherry/ red fruit core. Lovely length too. The grapes are picked early, whole berry fermented, and don’t spend too much time on skins.
They want to minimise extraction and prioritise a juicer expression, that is all about showcasing the fruit.
