Wantirna Estate is a family affair, founded in 1963 by Reg and Bertina Egan.
This bucolic old-world-inspired vineyard is located not far from Melbourne town centre; now surrounded by suburbia, the proverbial rose amongst the thorns.
Now run primarily by Reg and Bertina's daughter Maryann, the estate produces a small premium range of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and classic medium-bodied Bordeaux blends that are elegant, classic and exceptional options for the cellar.
Reg describes their vineyard as a "never ending world of change and enchantment".

Plenty of flavour, pie apple with a smattering of citrus and preserved lemon, a gentle chalkiness but quite smooth in delivery, juicy acidity, some savoury oatmeal stuff and lemon zest on a long finish. The Isabella from Wantirna Estate is crafted from Chardonnay vines over 40 years old, grown on a gentle east-facing slope that gets the perfect amount of sunlight to grow top quality fruits.
It's deliciously fine and fresh, with juicy stone-fruits and floral aromas bursting from the glass, entwined with a delicious nuttiness and well-balanced acidity.

"Great to see the Wantirna Estate wines once again and generously sent to GW and me in a small yield year. Fantastic and unique wines. Distinctly fine boned expression here. There's bright red cherry characters, some smoky paprika elements and clove-cinnamon oak flavours, drawing into a woody, dried herb finish. Light, tense, distinctly dry and chewy. Fine, pumice-stone tannin works well. The pinosity is different here, not the silky, concentrated and fine draw expected, but there's merit in this expression and its interesting to see how this release works. The Wantirna Estate Lily Pinot Noir is a mix of three blocks but a wine with one distinct purpose: to excite your senses.
Coming from three sites on the Wantirna Estate – Mature, Front and Fruit Tree blocks – each imparts its own unique character, which is important for creating a wine with depth of flavour. There can often be two weeks' difference between picking dates for the respective blocks, which just goes to show how different they are.
Cherries and strawberries overflow from the glass, with a spicy edge on the palate and loads of texture. It's pretty but classy, with a savouriness that comes through with a bit of air. A beautiful wine.
2020 Wantirna Estate Amelia Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot
The Amelia Cabernet Merlot blend is one of the most bankable Cabernets in Victoria.
Produced by the Egan family from their home vineyard in the outskirts of Melbourne, a large portion of this wine comes from their oldest plantings going back to 1963.
The blend is comprised mostly of Cabernet Sauvignon, with added Cabernet Franc & Merlot with a little splash of Petit Verdot.
It's a gorgeous example of a medium-bodied BDX blend. It's a perfect cellaring option with the fruit concentration, balance and structure to evolve for decades in the bottle.
2020 Wantirna Estate Hannah Cabernet Franc Merlot
The Hannah Cabernet Franc Merlot is made in extremely limited quantities, with only a single barrel produced of it each year.
It's inspired by the wines of Saint Emilion in France, known for their intriguing fragrance, elegance and complexity, and that's precisely what you'll find inside this bottle.
It's definitely a special wine, and if you get the chance to get your hands on it, don't pass it up. It's one to linger over with a book, surrounded by rich mahogany.

We want Different Drop customers to always be getting the best price. If you see a lower price elsewhere, just get in touch and we will sort it out for you. We handle all our price-matching on a case by case basis.
Some things to keep in mind:
- Retrospective price-matching is available for 30 days after you have purchased from us.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.
We stock three different sized gift boxes (single, three bottle and six), all are available for purchase for a flat rate of $8. They look great and make an awesome impression.
To add a gift box to your order, simply add at checkout. The special requests box is your friend, please give us as many details of what you are looking for and we will try our best, or get in contact to discuss it with you.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
