Description

If you’re curious about why Chenin Blanc is South Africa’s calling card, start here. This six-pack pulls together some of the country’s best-value expressions - from bright, clean coastal styles to textured, skin-contact takes with a bit of edge.

It’s a crash course in the grape that’s quietly become South Africa’s strongest hand, showing just how much complexity, character, and drinkability you can get for not much coin. No two wines here play the same tune and that’s exactly the point.

2024 Mullineux Kloof Street Chenin Blanc

Chris and Andrea Mullineux are the real deal in the Swartland, and this wine is the perfect introduction to their style. While the Kloof Street label is designed for earlier drinking, the pedigree of the fruit here is serious.

This isn't just leftover grapes; it is sourced from two sustainably farmed parcels of 46-year-old dry land bush vines on the decomposed granite soils of the Paardeberg. That is genuine old-vine heritage, and it gives the wine a depth that you rarely see at this price point.

The fruit is chilled, whole-bunch pressed, and fermented with indigenous yeasts. While most of it stays in tank to preserve freshness, a portion is aged in older French oak barrels to build texture.

It's a great introduction to Swartland Chenin that smells of sun-ripened pears and wet stone (that distinct "petrichor" mineral note). On the palate, it balances a soft, round texture with a pithy, grippy finish. It is fresh, detailed, and incredibly satisfying.

2023 Thistle & Weed Springdoring Chenin Blanc

The Swartland is the spiritual home of South African Chenin Blanc, and Thistle & Weed are masters of hunting down the region's most resilient heritage blocks. The Springdoring - named after a persistent local burr - comes from a 1982-planted bush vine vineyard on the Paardeberg Mountain. These vines are rooted in pure granite and face East, which shelters them from the brutal afternoon heat and preserves that critical "nervous tension" in the grapes.

Winemaking is low-intervention but precise: whole-bunch pressed, wild fermented in old French oak, and left on lees for nine months to build texture. There’s no new oak here to muddy the waters; it’s all about the granite and the fruit.

This is high-definition Swartland Chenin. You get the trademark savoury notes, green apples, aromatics alongside grapefruit and lime. The palate is pristine and crystalline, with a mineral, saline edge that cuts right through. It’s edgy, layered, and has a fantastic pithy grip - such great value for the class of this Chenin.

"Grapes from a Paardeberg vineyard planted in 1980. The nose shows hay, lime, white peach and a hint of flinty reduction. The palate is lithe and energetic – good fruit concentration, well integrated acidity, the finish pithy in texture and nicely savoury."
- Christian Eedes (Wine Mag)

2024 Gabrielskloof Chenin Blanc

This is a straight-shooting Chenin from Gabriëlskloof’s estate vineyards in Bot River - coastal influence, dry-farmed fruit, and a light touch in the cellar. The team doesn’t chase complexity for complexity’s sake here. It’s more about capturing the natural shape of the fruit and letting it land on its feet.

The 2024 sees a mix of fermentation vessels - mostly older oak with a bit of steel - giving it that subtle texture without weighing anything down. There’s some stone fruit and citrus in the mix, maybe a faint nutty edge from the lees, but nothing showy or forced. It’s dry, fresh, and really well put together.

It’s the kind of white that doesn’t need a lot of explaining. Just clean lines, good bones, and a finish that keeps you going back for another glass. Unfussy, well-made Chenin that’s easy to drink but not forgettable.

2023 Carinus Family Chenin Blanc

The 2023 Carinus Family Chenin Blanc is a top-notch introduction to Swartland Chenin, made by cousins Danie and Hugo Carinus—fifth-generation growers now stepping into the spotlight.

Sourced from a 41-year-old dry-farmed vineyard in Malmesbury, the vines grow in decomposed granite soils, giving the wine its bright, mineral edge. Fermented and aged for nine months in a mix of old French oak and stainless steel, it’s beautifully balanced between freshness and depth.

Zesty citrus and stone fruit aromas lead into a lively, textured palate with crisp acidity and a clean, savoury finish. Sustainably made and vegan-friendly, it’s a brilliant showcase of Swartland’s potential and a must-try for Chenin lovers.

"Some flinty reduction before peach, lime, lemon and fynbos. The palate is pure and zippy with a pithy finish. Poised and taut, this over-delivers at the price."
- Christian Eedes (WineMag.Co.ZA)

2023 Radford Dale Vinum Chenin Blanc

Radford Dale were into old-vine Chenin way before it was the trendy thing to do. The Vinum range is their "no-nonsense" lineup, but the pedigree here is actually pretty wild. A big chunk of this fruit comes from a vineyard planted back in 1969, which is the same site they use for their flagship labels. It is rare to find fruit that old in a wine at this price.

Because those gnarly old bush vines have such deep roots, the wine has a natural broadness and weight that you just do not get from younger plants. It is not trying too hard; it is just a balanced, medium-bodied white that feels a bit more "serious" in the glass than your average $25 bottle.

They keep the winemaking simple to make sure it stays fresh. There is a bit of barrel fermentation in there to round out the texture and add a hint of spice, but it does not taste oaky. It is more about that classic, waxy Chenin feel, kept nice and bright.

On the nose, it is all ripe apple, pear, and a touch of honeysuckle. The palate is juicy and rounded with a bit of peach and a zesty, ginger-like kick on the finish that keeps it crisp. Honestly, it is a great one to have in the fridge for a spicy curry or just a casual glass after work.

2024 Craven Wines Karibib Vineyard Chenin Blanc

It took some time for Mick and Jeanine to find the right vineyard to produce a Craven Chenin Blanc.

In 2015, they stumbled across a vineyard up in the Polkadraai Hills that had just what they were looking for. The fruit these vines were producing was designated for making sweet wine. However, when approached about white a dry white made with his grapes, the grower jumped at the chance.

It's one of their best cuvees now. A razor sharp, electric Chenin with real energy. It's a wine that twists through the finish and finishes squeaky and dry. It's a first rate Chenin Blanc from this part of the world.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
