Description

Back before Australia was all grown up and mature, fortified wines dominated the landscape. Amongst these wines the Barossa icon Seppeltsfield, has always stood out.

This Rare Tawny, with an average age of 18 years is an elegant and complex fortified wine. Rich in spice and roasted nuts, there is such great depth of flavour to this wine, all while still retaining bright acidity.

Sophisticated and alluring, the Rare Tawny lingers on the palate long after it has passed through, a truly iconic Aussie wine.

96 Points - "Average age of at least 15 years. Deep mid tawny with amber shades and green flashes at the edge. Rich fruitcake characters along with layers of spice, candied citrus peel, toffee, roasting nuts, dried and liqueur fruit, rancio, mahogany, polished leather and salted caramel. Fresh as a daisy on the palate, with superb detail, drive and a finish that lingers wonderfully packed with candied fruit and spice." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

95 Points - "Full of grilled walnuts, dried figs and dates. Lush aromas of things sweet and savoury that we love so much. With elements of dried cranberries and red apple peel. Topped with a leafy eucalyptus note and wood polish. Caramel coffee too. Flavours start and finish with coffee candy, like Kopiko! It's sweet, naturally, but with an adequate orangey acid twist to keep things alive and bouncy. Smooth as, you don't notice the alcohol amongst tongue-coating flavours. It doesn't run for great depths, lengths, perhaps yes, right to the back of the throat. God, I love fortified wines. An oxidative beauty." - Kasia Sobiesiak (The Wine Front)

The Para Rare Tawny style is characterised by two main elements - selected aged material identified for its increased richness and complexity, which is then balanced by the careful blending addition of Rich Rare Apera (Oloroso Sherry).
