Description

We've got a live one here...

The Barossa has some of the world's oldest Semillon vines but few realise brilliant wines from them like wine grower and maker Brett Grocke.

This a first release of a multi vintage blend - with 2019, 2018 and 2017 vintages all in the wine. It's richer and waxier than the single vintage Semillon but the same sea-shell and mineral edge can be seen.

It's fermented in barrel, the power of the old vine fruit calling out for more texture from winemaking.

The fruit is sourced rom the Magnolia Road Vineyard, Vine Vale Semillon is from two separate plantings – 1941 (90%), 1971 (10%).

92 Points - "Glowing yellow in colour. By the look of it it's fully developed but there's freshness to the palate, within its style. Indeed it's a deceptive wine in that it looks and feels rich but there's more than a little reticence at play; subtlety too. Citrus, honey, earth, wood spice and curry leaf notes. A genuine softness to the palate and by that I don't mean creaminess, I mean softness to the acidity. Interesting from start to finish." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

The NV Magnolia Blanc is the first non-vintage Semillon that we've produced but has been a project that I've had on my mind for many years. By blending across vintages we're able to create a wine with more depth, complexity and interest plus it has given the wine a wonderfully propensity to age. I'm very pleased with the first NV release and early indications are very positive amongst those early few that have seen it. Aromas of lemon zest, preserved lemon, sea spray, lemon butter, nougat. The palate showing flavours of preserved lemon and butter with a full rich fruited mouth feel. Salivating natural acid, oyster shell salinity with a waxy and saline finish. Oysters, a must try with this wine.
