2024 Mulline Pinot Gris

Pinot Gris (or Grigio) has come a long way in Australia. From humble beginnings in southern Victoria, it was the first 'alternative' variety to officially graduate the AAVWS and be seen as a mainstream variety.

It's easy to see why when you look at the Mulline Pinot Gris. This is definitely more Gris than Grigio, with lifted florals, ripe stone fruits and a bit of spice coming through.

The wine also saw a small amount of skin contact to provide texture, which rounds out the rich palate and makes this incredibly more-ish.

"100% pinot gris from Modewarre on the Surf Coast in Geelong. A bright salmon copper. The nose features an attractive amalgam of cranberries, freshly cut pear, Mediterranean herbs and a little honeydew melon. Just as good on the mouth-filling, savoury, pithy and long palate. Top stuff."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

2024 Mulline Chardonnay

The 2024 Mulline Chardonnay is an exciting new addition to the Mulline lineup, offering a balanced and vibrant expression of Geelong's diverse sub-regions. With a focus on freshness and complexity, this wine delivers outstanding value for Chardonnay lovers.

This Chardonnay sees a careful mix of old and new French oak (10% new) and 20% malolactic fermentation, giving the wine a fine balance of bright acidity, subtle oak, and creamy texture. The fruit is sourced from four vineyards, lending layers of complexity to the wine, with flavours of citrus, stone fruit, and a touch of minerality.

Fresh, lively, and perfectly balanced, the 2024 Mulline Chardonnay is a stellar debut that’s perfect for lovers of refined, cool-climate Chardonnays.

"A blend of fruit from the Moorabool Valley, Barrabool Hills and Bellarine Peninsulas in Geelong. The boys at Mulline have nailed this new and well-priced addition to the range. Gently saline, with aromas of perfectly ripened white peaches. The palate is simultaneously fleshy, structured and long. A wine to buy by the case and enjoy over the next three to four years."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

2024 Mulline Rose

Looking for dry and delicious Rose from the Best Value Winery in Australia this year (according to Halliday Wine Companion)? Well, this is the only wine in the country that fits that bill.

Ben Mullen crafts this from mostly Syrah (Shiraz) with a touch of Pinot Noir. Barrel fermented and aged on lees for a few months to slowly build texture, this is a beautiful, delicate and floral take on quasi-Provencale-style Rose.

It's slippery, gently spicy and a lot of fun to drink.

"Dry, flavoursome – but not too much so – and salivating. You can't ask for much more really."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

"This is a crunchy rosé with green apple, citrus, cranberry and red cherry characters bursting throughout... The longer I sat with this wine the more the texture came out, but the energy/refreshment never waned. It’s good."

2024 Mulline Pinot Noir

Ben Mullen has a way with Pinot Noir, and this is his most approachable expression at an unbeatable price. Sourced from four carefully chosen vineyards across Geelong, it’s a seamless showcase of the region’s energy and elegance—a Pinot bursting with bright fruit, spice, and sheer drinkability.

Since launching Mulline Vintners in 2018 with business partner Ben Hine, Mullen has been rewriting the script for Geelong wine. By working closely with top growers and keeping his operation small as essentially a one-man-winemaking-band, he’s producing some of the most exciting wines in Victoria today.

This Pinot Noir is a riot of aromatics—wild cherry, raspberry, and cranberry leap from the glass, laced with hints of white pepper, dried herbs, and subtle earthy spice from a judicious 20% whole-bunch fermentation. The palate is pure pleasure: silky, fresh, and alive with mouth-watering acidity. This is the best value Pinot that's come out of Ben's winery to date.

A Pinot that’s as serious as it is fun, the 2024 Mulline is best enjoyed slightly chilled, poured generously, and shared with good company. No overthinking required—just revel in its deliciousness.

"Gosh this is an attractive wine... Fruit and florals are the drivers but then the extras are tucked within... There’s fabulous drinking to be had here."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

"The energetic palate is light to medium bodied with the wine's fine-grained tannins and bright acidity making for a delicious and refreshing mouthful. Good, nay, great now and over the next 3–4 years."

Mulline Wines

Established in 2018 Mulline Vintners is a double dose of Bens, specifically winemaker Ben Mullen and business brain and wine drinker Ben Hine. Mullen has experience from around the globe, and was most recently winemaker at Clyde Park.

They source fruit from around the Geelong area of Victoria with a focus on Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, working with growers farming sustainably and organically. All steps of the winemaking operation are done with a major focus on looking after the environment.

Their first releases from the 2019 vintage were met with some acclaim - they are definitely young guns to watch out for.

To prevent embarrassment and to encourage rapping couplets... Mulline rhymes with “divine”.
