2025 Mulline Pinot Noir

Ben Mullen just has a way with Pinot, and this 2025 release is a perfect example of why we’re such big fans. It’s a blend of fruit from across Geelong - the Moorabool Valley, Surf Coast, and Bellarine - and it basically captures the best of the whole region in one bottle.

The first thing you’ll notice is how bright and pretty it smells. It’s all wild strawberry and raspberry, but there’s this cool savory edge of white pepper and woodsmoke underneath. Ben used a bit of whole-bunch here, which gives it a nice "crunch" and that classic spicy hit we love.

In the mouth, it’s medium-bodied, really supple, and has this lovely silken feel. A nice lick of oak balances the lovely fruit, and it all opens up the longer you leave the bottle open.

You can definitely drink it now - maybe with a slight chill - but it’s got enough stuffing to get even better over the next year or two. A well-made entry-level Pinot that delivers serious value for money.

95 points
"With its aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry and some whole-bunch–derived pepper and spice, there's a lot going on in this well-put-together and attractively priced wine."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

2025 Mulline Pinot Gris

Pinot Gris (or Grigio) has come a long way in Australia. From humble beginnings in southern Victoria, it was the first 'alternative' variety to officially graduate the AAVWS and be seen as a mainstream variety.

It's easy to see why when you look at the Mulline Pinot Gris. This is definitely more Gris than Grigio, with lifted florals, ripe stone fruits and a bit of spice coming through.

The wine also saw a small amount of skin contact to provide colour and texture, which rounds out the rich palate and makes this incredibly more-ish.

96 points
"Beautifully poised with its aromas of redcurrant, nectarine, pear and blood orange. Even better on the palate, where the flavours and texture are perfectly balanced by subtle time-on-skins tannins, before finishing orange-pithy and long. Should age nicely, too. Excellent."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

2024 Mulline Rose

Looking for dry and delicious Rose from the Best Value Winery in Australia this year (according to Halliday Wine Companion)? Well, this is the only wine in the country that fits that bill.

Ben Mullen crafts this from mostly Syrah (Shiraz) with a touch of Pinot Noir. Barrel fermented and aged on lees for a few months to slowly build texture, this is a beautiful, delicate and floral take on quasi-Provencale-style Rose.

It's slippery, gently spicy and a lot of fun to drink.

"Dry, flavoursome – but not too much so – and salivating. You can't ask for much more really."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

2025 Mulline Chardonnay

Ben Mullen has quickly established Mulline as one of the most exciting names in Geelong, and while his single-vineyard wines get a lot of glory, this regional blend is the perfect introduction to his style. It is a smart, balanced snapshot of the region, from a winemaker in scintillating form.

The 2025 release is built on tension and clarity. Sourced from classic P58 and I10V1 clones, the fruit was fermented in French oak barriques and hogsheads (20% new) and aged for six months. Ben kept the malolactic fermentation low to just 10% to ensure the wine retained its snap and electric acid line, using the oak merely to frame the fruit rather than dominate it.

It's an excellent value Chardonnay from this rising star of a producer. It's poised and medium-bodied with layers of bright, crunchy citrus and stone fruit, underscored by gentle almond notes and a lightly 'minerally' edge. It has clarity, flavour, freshness - all you could want in modern Aussie Chardonnay.

"It’s competent and convincing from start to finish, and juicy and fresh through the finish. Unforced complexity is the strong suit of this wine."
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

Mulline Wines

Established in 2018 Mulline Vintners is a double dose of Bens, specifically winemaker Ben Mullen and business brain and wine drinker Ben Hine. Mullen has experience from around the globe, and was most recently winemaker at Clyde Park.

They source fruit from around the Geelong area of Victoria with a focus on Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, working with growers farming sustainably and organically. All steps of the winemaking operation are done with a major focus on looking after the environment.

Their first releases from the 2019 vintage were met with some acclaim - they are definitely young guns to watch out for.

To prevent embarrassment and to encourage rapping couplets... Mulline rhymes with “divine”.
