Description

The Arras Brut Elite is one of the country's go-to premium sparkling wines.

It's a rolling vintage wine which has a staggeringly consistent track record. It's fresh and lively, sporting slight reductive notes and the thumbprint of the country's most iconic sparkling winemaker.

It's tight yet full flavoured, a quality sparkling at a brilliant price that will scrath the itch for quality fizz without busting the bank.

94 points - "“A pretty wet winter, in 2017, set the wines up well, then it went mild and dry. We’ve locked into this house style with this cuvee. About 9% pinot meunier, and a balance, more or less of pinot noir and chardonnay”, offers winemaker Ed Carr. There’s a bit of new oak and older oak used here (and foudre is employed). This shows what for to most of the big company NV at the price. If the 1601 NV had a bit more toasty, savoury richness, this one is the more briny, minerally aperitif style. Scents of green apple, nectarine, dried peach and oyster shell scents. The palate similar, green apple, a bit of tonic water, racy and lean (now, though I can see it filling out some), a touch of oatmeal-savouriness is there, a little cinnamon oak spice, and offers briny minerality in spades. Clips along all fresh and perky, a little crunch, lingering grapefruity tangy brightness. Feels very polished and good. A delight, with quiet complexity." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

93 points - "Cuvée No. 1701; a non-vintage blend of pinot noir/chardonnay/pinot meunier, predominately 2017 fruit with 15.5% aged reserve wine. Pale straw in the glass with a superfine, energetic bead and mousse. Aromas of green apple, citrus and white peach with hints of crushed stone, brioche, mushroom broth, white flowers, vanilla, cream, oyster shell, lanolin and proving dough. It cuts a sophisticated line across the palate with notes of roasting nuts framed by shimmering acidity and wonderful drive and complexity. Ditch the French NVs and pop this in your shopping basket instead." - Dave Brookes (Halliday Wine Companion)

91 points - "Light, bright yellow colour; creamy, smoked charcuterie and custard, with a faint whiff of reduction; the palate is refined, restrained, subtle and streamlined, with crisp and very dry balance, lean and long through the finish. It's a little straightforward at the moment, and will doubtless fill out with more time on cork. One for those who like rapier thrust and unencumbered fruit purity." - Huon Hooke (The Real Review)
