Pinot Noir can be a tricky grape in the Adelaide Hills, but Gareth’s 2023 Pinots demonstrate a rare delicacy and aromatic complexity. These are wines built on nuance rather than power, with fine tannins and lifted floral notes.
The Scary Gully Pinot Noir is a perfect example, offering ethereal red berry fruit and a savoury, mineral finish that speaks to the coolness of the vintage. The Monomeith Pinot Noir brings a touch more structure and depth, showing off the east-west vineyard’s unique microclimate. And though yields were low at Little Creek, the limited Pinot that emerged is a triumph.
Monomeith is one of the true landmarks of Adelaide Hills Pinot. Perched high on the Ashton ridge at 530 metres, this organically farmed site sits in its own sheltered, east–west valley - so the vines see both the morning and afternoon sun. That dual exposure, combined with sandstone and quartz soils, gives the fruit remarkable depth and drive, even in a cooler year.
The 2024 season delivered small yields of pristine fruit, and this wine shows it. It’s lifted and aromatic, full of red cherry, violet and gentle spice, with the kind of mineral backbone that defines this part of the Hills. There’s brightness up front, fine tannin through the mid-palate, and a long, seamless finish.
Fermented with 20% whole bunches and aged for ten months in French oak (20% new), it’s a beautifully balanced Pinot that sits comfortably among the region’s best.
The Monomeith vineyard has been part of the Gentle Folk story since day one, and in 2024 it’s produced something exceptional.

"Bright, floral and perfumed, with vivid aromas of minerals, citrus and crushed stones. The palate is delicate and refined, with fine tannins and bright acidity that lead to a mouthwatering, spicy and earthy finish. A really classy pinot with great balance. Drink or hold."

Tucked into its own small valley in Norton Summit, Little Creek is a vineyard that’s always marched to its own beat. The vines, planted in the late ’80s on quartz and siltstone soils, are densely packed - twice the planting density of neighbouring blocks - which gives the fruit its natural depth and concentration.
The 2024 vintage produced tiny yields, but what little there was is superb. This is classic Little Creek Pinot: darker fruited, more savoury and structured than the other Gentle Folk sites, yet still full of the lift and energy that defines the season. There’s black cherry and plum wrapped around earthy spice, with fine tannins and just a whisper of oak to frame it.
Fermented with 100% destemmed fruit and aged for ten months in French oak (only 10% new), it’s a beautifully balanced, expressive wine from one of the Hills’ most distinctive sites.

"Dark-fruited and spicy, with great intensity and perfume. The palate is plush and fruit-driven, with a minerally mouthfeel and fine tannins. A lovely wine with real purity and power. Drink or hold."

Scary Gully is one of the most dramatic vineyards in the Adelaide Hills - perched high at 620 metres on steep sandstone and quartz slopes that test even the toughest growers. Planted back in 1984, it’s one of the oldest Pinot sites in the region, and every year it delivers wines that feel alive with altitude.
The 2024 vintage was mild and dry, with tiny yields and pristine fruit. The result is a beautifully composed Pinot Noir that captures everything special about this site: lifted perfume, fine structure and a long, mineral finish. There’s a core of red and dark cherry, a touch of spice, and the unmistakable forest-floor character that always marks Scary Gully.
Fermented with 20% whole clusters and aged for ten months in French oak (20% new), it’s a wine that sits right in the sweet spot between power and precision.
This is one of Gareth Belton’s most complete Scary Gully Pinots yet - bright, layered, and brimming with energy.

"There’s a lovely dark-fruited profile, with aromas of black cherries, blackberry bush, blood oranges and graphite. The palate has fine tannins and a plush mouthfeel, with a long, stony, mouthwatering finish. 25% whole-bunch fermentation, made from vines planted in the 1980s. Drink or hold."
