2024 Dr Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Grosses Gewachs

The Wehlener Sonnenuhr is perhaps the jewel of the Mosel – a south-facing, steep slate slope that has produced some of Germany’s most famous Rieslings for centuries. Ernst Loosen has a deep connection to this site, and his Grosses Gewächs bottling is always a highlight of the range, capturing both the finesse and power the vineyard is known for.

The 2024 vintage gave fruit of great balance, with crisp acidity matched by depth of flavour. True to tradition, fermentation took place with wild yeasts in large old oak casks, followed by extended lees aging to bring detail and texture without clouding the vineyard’s natural expression.

What sets Wehlener Sonnenuhr apart is its precision – a Riesling that feels lifted and pure, yet carries serious structure for long aging. Even young, the wine shows beautiful clarity, but the best is still to come with years in the cellar. This is Dr Loosen working at the highest level, from one of the Mosel’s truly legendary sites.

"The 2024 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Alte Reben Grosses Gewächs, from ancient, ungrafted vines, has subtle savor. It shimmers with lemon and stone on the nose. The palate is citric, slaty and the picture of brightness. The 2024 is understated but profoundly lemony, zesty and so linear. It is svelte but incisive."
- Anne Krebiehl MW (Vinous)

2024 Dr Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling Grosses Gewachs

The Ürziger Würzgarten, or “spice garden,” is one of the Mosel’s most recognisable vineyards – a steep, red-soiled slope that stands out from its neighbours and produces Rieslings with a totally different personality. Ernst Loosen has long championed this site, seeing in it a wilder, more exotic edge compared to the linear precision of nearby vineyards.

The 2024 vintage delivered excellent balance, with slow ripening preserving freshness while allowing real flavour intensity to build. As always, the wine was fermented with native yeasts in traditional old oak casks and given plenty of time on lees, a method that adds texture while letting the vineyard character shine through.

What you get here is a dry Riesling that’s full of spice, lift and energy, underpinned by the trademark red volcanic soils of the site. It’s powerful yet playful, with layers that will only deepen over the years. One of the most distinctive wines in the Dr Loosen GG range, and a bottle that shows just how much vineyard personality matters in the Mosel.

"Very spicy, just as the name of this vineyard site promises. Terrific tension and complexity on the medium-bodied palate. For this amount of power it’s remarkable how cool the wine remains. Very long, complete finish. Drink from release."
- Stuart Pigott (James Suckling)

2024 Dr Loosen Erdener Treppchen Riesling Grosses Gewachs

The Erdener Treppchen vineyard is one of the Mosel’s steepest and most dramatic sites, its name literally meaning “little staircase” – a nod to the stone steps cut into the slope so growers could reach the vines. It’s here that Ernst Loosen crafts one of his most expressive dry Rieslings, always marked by intensity and a deep mineral core.

As with all of Loosen’s GGs, the wine was fermented with wild yeasts and left to rest on its lees in large old oak casks, a traditional approach that brings texture and savoury depth without clouding the clarity of the vineyard.

What makes Erdener Treppchen stand out is its combination of ripe citrus and stone fruit flavours with that stony, smoky edge that screams Mosel slate. It’s structured, powerful and built to age, but even now you can see its precision and length. A serious dry Riesling from one of Germany’s most important vineyards and a winemaker who has helped define the style for a generation.

"The 2024 Dr. Loosen Riesling Mosel Erdener Treppchen GG Alte Reben has a striking nose of sliced fennel and fennel seeds. Compact and crisp, this remarkable GG has tons of structure and very good
concentration. It needs some time to emerge from its youth. Best after 2026."
- Stuart Pigott (James Suckling)

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
