Description

Yangarra has been hooked on Roussanne since 2007, and they’ve become an Australian benchmark for the variety. If you like your whites generous, savoury and full of texture, this is one to get behind.

The care starts with hand picking and gentle basket pressing, followed by wild fermentation in mostly older French oak. Time on lees builds that lovely mouthfeel without loading the wine up with oak flavour.

Think pear, baked apple and ginger, with a little honeyed fragrance and a salty, savoury edge. It’s plush and almost waxy through the middle, with citrus freshness and a gentle grip keeping the finish in shape.

This is a textural white to put on the dinner table with any fish or white meat dish. Proper food-friendly Roussanne from a producer that knows the variety inside out.

Intrigued by this rare golden beauty, whose origins lie in the Rhône Valley of southern France, we have been producing Roussanne since 2007. Expect fragrance, power, and savoury textural delight with great rewards in the cellar, for those who can wait.

Vintage
A normal wet winter was followed by a picturesque dry spring. The long range weather patterns indicated a shift from La Niña towards El Niño, which favours drier and hotter conditions. In these warmer seasons, we adjust our practices to encourage slightly higher yields and more canopy cover. However, the unexpected summer rainfall in December and January presented a unique challenge, resulting in larger bunches and berry development. Warm conditions prevailed through February and early March, promoting ripening of flavours and sugars with the balance we were aiming for. The warmth led to an intense couple of weeks, during which we harvested the majority of the grapes.

Winemaking
Sourced from two blocks within our estate. Hand-picked on the 9th and 12th of March and basket pressed, retaining earlier free run for this blend. No sulphur or acid was added to the juice. The passive oxidation as juice helps to naturally fine out the unstable phenolic compounds associated with this variety and accentuates its trademark texture. The un-fined and unsettled juice was transferred to mostly older French oak puncheons for wild yeast fermentation. No MLF. Matured for 7 months and stirred monthly with lees retained before racking and blending prior to bottling. Bottled November 2024.

Yangarra

Yangarra Estate stands as one of the defining properties of the Blewitt Springs sub-region in McLaren Vale. Famous for its ancient North Maslin Sands and gnarly old bush vines, it is a single-vineyard estate dedicated exclusively to the varieties of the Southern Rhône.

For over a quarter of a century, the estate was shaped by the late Peter Fraser. Pete was not just the winemaker; he was the heartbeat of the operation and a visionary who fundamentally changed the way the world views Australian Grenache. He championed "purity, beauty and elegance," moving the needle away from high alcohol and extraction towards finesse and site expression. His pioneering work with ceramic eggs, amphorae and biodynamic farming helped earn Yangarra the title of International Winery of the Year twice.

While the loss of Pete is deeply felt across the industry, the wines remain a lasting testament to his genius. From the world-class Old Vine Grenache and the brooding Ironheart Shiraz to the textural, ceramic-aged Roussanne, every bottle reflects his philosophy of "always a little further." Today, Yangarra remains a certified biodynamic powerhouse and a benchmark producer, continuing to honour the legacy of one of the country's greatest winemakers.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
