Description

"These value-packed pinot noirs are the unicorns of the wine world."
- Nick Ryan (The Australian

The Wickhams Road project isn't just about buying fruit; for this Gippsland release, Franco D'Anna and the team actually farm the block themselves. Located near Nar Nar Goon, they travel down weekly to tend the vines, ensuring the fruit meets the same exacting standards as their home block at Hoddles Creek.

This Pinot is generally a little fleshier and darker in profile than its Yarra Valley sibling. The winemaking is serious: the fruit is destemmed (but not crushed) and left on skins for 25 days. That extended maceration builds a savoury, structural spine that you almost never see in Pinot at this price.

It's Gippsland 101 in Pinot-land. Expect dark cherry and plum fruit, a touch of earth, and a savoury finish that keeps it food-friendly. Ridiculous value, as always.

"A very bright crimson-ruby red. Savoury, with aromas of ripe strawberries, rose bush and spice. There's good depth, too, on the well-structured palate. I imagine this will be in its ideal drinking window six to 12 months from now."
- Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

"Coiled and crouched, a wine that unfurls and reveals more with time. There’s more bass than the Yarra wine, more muscle, but certainly not heft. There’s a load of dark raspberry and rhubarb, a squeeze of blood orange, a lick of quandong tartness. The palate is supple, closed out with a puff of powdery tannins and fine acidity."
- Nick Ryan (The Australian)

94+ points - "Picked a touch earlier than normal due to onset of heat. I like this a lot. While the new Wickhams Road Tasmanian is my pick at this early juncture, this is the one with the most upside. A very bright crimson-ruby red. Savoury, with aromas of ripe strawberries, rose bush and spice. There's good depth, too, on the well-structured palate. I imagine this will be in its ideal drinking window six to 12 months from now." - Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion)

92 points - "Wickhams Road offer a range of wines from different regions, all good quality, and all for $20. They should be given an award for services to the wine loving public.

A bright wine that fairly pops with perfume and spice, red cherry and ripe raspberry. It’s medium-bodied, a little bit savoury and earthy, through mainly it’s about vibrant red fruits. Tannin is sure-footed and offers grip, has a cranberry freshness to acidity, and the finish is lively and gently sappy, offering good length. It needs more time in bottle to settle down, but gee, a good wine here." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Customer Reviews

From the same vineyard as the Gippsland Chardonnay; guided through the winery to show maximum regional expression, has dark fruits and savoury finish. The fruit is sourced from our own vineyard in Gippsland. We travel down to Gippsland once a week to tend the vines. The wine is destemmed without crushing and left on skins for 25 days. We use a mixture of natural and cultured yeast to achieve a balance between fruit and complexity. The wine is bottled without filtration or fining.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
