Description

Tessa and Jeremy have a lot of belief in the potential of Nebbiolo in the high-altitude country around Beechworth. While their flagship home-block bottles show off the intense alpine end of the spectrum, this Village release leans into a friendlier, regional style. The fruit comes from Rex Lucas's secluded patch of 1998 vines in Wooragee, sitting up at 450 metres on straight granitic soils.

It catches your attention straight away with a fragrance that sets it apart from more heavy-handed styles. It completely skips the traditional dark tar characters, opting instead for a bright mix of dried citrus rind, a handful of fresh red petals, and a core of tart, crunchy red berries. It is aromatic, incredibly pretty, and completely unpretentious.

It’s a delicious, exciting red that proves this notoriously stubborn grape has a massive future in the high country.  Another home run for this winemaking dynamic duo!

"It’s really well done, super refreshing, trim and pure. Distinctly nebbiolo but delivered at the lighter and gluggable end without scrimping on perkiness and chomp. Yes and yes and yes."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

94 points - "A nebbiolo that does nebbiolo well but also marches to its own beat. Well done. Not aping the standard bearers, comfortable in its own lane. And great for it. Reminds me of Ravensworth offerings in some respects.

Fine and lithe, shimmy of drying, dusty tannins, succulent, red berry freshness, white pepper, green herb, a touch of alpine herb, a little tomato leaf too. Spicy as well. Grip and pucker. It’s really well done, super refreshing, trim and pure. Distinctly nebbiolo but delivered at the lighter and gluggable end without scrimping on perkiness and chomp. Yes and yes and yes." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

This is Rex Lucas’ tiny vineyard located in the Wooragee hamlet on the granite soils at about 450m elevation, just outside Beechworth. These vines were planted in 1998 and this wine should provide an unfettered but compelling example of why Nebbiolo has such a bright future in our region. Think a twist of dried orange peel, lots of petally florals, sweet red fruits and a hessian rope drag of gravelly tannins to length – but all in a deliciously drinkable frame.

Vignerons Schmölzer & Brown

Tessa and Jeremy are playing a long-game with their Vignerons Schmolzer & Brown label.

They have invested in a block of land high in the hills behind Beechworth and have planted 10,000 vines on it over the last couple of years with the plan to farm it organically. Tessa has a wealth of experience from time at Sorrenberg and Kooyong, Jeremy is an architect by trade with an eye for detail.

It comes as no surprise that the buzz around this husband and wife team is palpable and the praise is high. Max Allen called them, “one of a remarkable number of impressive new wine labels to have cropped up in Beechworth over the last five years.”

They are going to be at the forefront of Beechworth wine for many years to come.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
