Description

Picnic is the most easy-going wine in the Two Paddocks family, the one made for sharing, no occasion required. It draws on the estate’s certified organic vineyards in Alexandra, Gibbston and Bannockburn, made in a style you can happily open any day of the week.

The 2025 harvest followed a slow spring, with snow and a late frost creating some early challenges. Good flowering and settled weather later in summer put the season back on track, allowing the fruit to ripen well before hand-picking.

Fermentation relies on the grapes’ own yeasts, followed by ten months in French oak barrels, almost all previously used. That keeps oak flavour in the background and lets the fruit do the talking.

Juicy fruit and a soft, approachable feel are the appeal here. Estate-grown, organic Central Otago Pinot with this much care behind it makes Picnic an easy choice for the table or a few glasses with friends.

Vintage Comments
At the start of the 2024 growing season there was above average early rainfall and two large snow events in mid-September and late October, which resulted in a slow start to spring growth as the soil was still too cool. Then a very late frost on the 3 November caused minor damage at The Fusilier Vineyard, Bannockburn and The First Paddock, Gibbston, but thankfully there was no damage on the two Alexandra vineyards. Counter-intuitively, overall average spring 2024 temperatures were above 2023 and sat in the middle range.

Optimum flowering and fruit-set was achieved in December and then warm settled late summer weather saw perfect conditions for ripening.
Winemakers note
Hand harvested between 31 March and 17 April 2025, 98% de-stemmed and given 9 days pre-fermentation cold maceration. After an indigenous ferment the wine is given
another 9 days post ferment time on skins. Wine is then
transferred to 1-4 year old French medium toast barriques (2% new oak) for a 10 month maturation before racking and bottling.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
