Description

While Timo's Pinots usually hog the spotlight, his Syrah is arguably the best-kept secret in the Yarra Valley. For the die-hard Mayer fans, this is the ultimate "if-you-know-you-know" wine, and often the strongest release in his entire lineup.

Sourced from a tiny parcel on the upper slopes of his Bloody Hill vineyard, the 2025 release is an absolute belter. Fermented with 100% whole bunches, Timo has managed to integrate the stalks so seamlessly this year that they just sit quietly in the background, providing serious structure without dominating the fruit.

Where previous years might have leaned heavily into cracked pepper and spice, this vintage is all about pure, lifted intensity. It leads with a beautiful perfume of blue fruits, Satsuma plum, and mulberries. On the palate, it is long, round, and incredibly delicious, driven by a humming line of acidity. For our money, one of the best cool-climate Syrah wines in this country.

"A seductive and slightly atypical Mayer shiraz. It's a touch riper than normal with its bouquet of dark cherry, blueberry and warm spices. A totally delicious and fruit-driven wine that will provide a heap of enjoyment over the next decade, if not longer."

"Blue fruited, peppery, dashes of Aussie bush, some game meat notes. Supple texture, a fresh, transparent kind of texture with a sheath of light, lithe tannin. Juiciness inherent, pretty fruit characters, quite the stern, Italianate tannin coming mid palate through the finish, and lingers with a saline-pumice stone minerality. Fine wine paradigms"

Great wine, needs time

Great cool climate shiraz. Very savoury and brambly. Needed a fair bit if time (ca. 3 hours) to really open up and show it's stuff. Will age well.

Beautiful perfume — blue fruits, ripe but lifted. Less spice this year, more pure intensity. The palate is all Satsuma blue plum and mulberries with the acidity humming underneath. Whole bunch sits seamlessly in the background. Long, round, delicious. What every Syrah wants to be like ....

Timo Mayer

German-born, enigmatic winemaker Timo Mayer is one of the great characters of the Yarra Valley. The words bombastic, charismatic and wild are as much applicable to the man as his wines.

From his close-planted Yarra Valley vineyard, evocatively named 'Bloody Hill', Timo carves out some astounding wines made with low levels of new oak and minimal additions. The signature of Timo's winemaking style is his penchant for whole-bunch ferment. His wines have an ethereal quality, firm tannins and impeccable structure.

These are compelling and extremely limited wines that tell a unique story of the Yarra Valley.
The Bloody Hill range is now the responsibility of Timo's talented son Rivar Mayer Ferguson, and has dropped the Mayer on the label from the 2021 releases. They continue to be superb value wines.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
