Description

This year is full of surprises from Timo, and this brand-new Grenache debut is a brilliant addition to the lineup.

If you're expecting a heavy, sweet, or syrupy Aussie Grenache, look elsewhere. In true Mayer fashion, he's crafting a wine that prioritises serious structure and tannin over outright richness.

Sourced from the black volcanic soils of Kangaroo Ground, it pours a beautiful, transparent medium-red. The nose kicks off warm with a subtle smoky edge, before moving into a palate packed with ripe blood orange, pomegranate, and plum.

What really makes this hum, though, is the shape of the wine - bright acidity and firm, grippy tannins lock all that natural fruit weight firmly into place. It’s a beautifully poised, savoury take on the variety that feels right at home in the Mayer portfolio.

"Pinot-esque, sleek and fine, refreshing red berry fruitiness, some wild herbs, a saltbush or piquant samphire kind of sea succulent salt-bitter-freshness going on."
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

94 points - "From Kangaroo Ground, on black basalt, a rare soil profile for the district. Rob Hall used to make rose out of the fruit. Payten & Jones made a table wine a while back out of it. Now, fruit wings its way up the Bloody Hill and gets the 100% whole bunch Mayer workout.

Pinot-esque, sleek and fine, refreshing red berry fruitiness, some wild herbs, a saltbush or piquant samphire kind of sea succulent salt-bitter-freshness going on. Some moss and bitter roots too. It?s not a bitter wine though, just accented by it. The dark fruit lingers past the long finish. A svelte pucker of dusty tannin lending structure. A little bolder than expected, but good gear." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

93 points - "A new wine from Mayer with fruit from Kangaroo Ground; 100% whole bunches, as is the norm here! A light, bright crimson. Uber floral with its bouquet of bright red fruits, dried roses and mountain herbs. Another luscious, vibrant and well-balanced '25 red from Mayer. The gently grippy, whole-bunch-derived tannins kick in on the savoury finish. Drink now and over the next three to four years." - Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion

From Kangaroo Ground on black volcanic soils. The colour sits in that transparent, medium‑red zone, and the nose opens warm and slightly smoky. Ripe fruit rolls through with notes of blood orange, pomegranate and plum. Bright acidity and firm, grippy tannins keep the wine poised, balancing the natural richness with freshness and shape.

Timo Mayer

German-born, enigmatic winemaker Timo Mayer is one of the great characters of the Yarra Valley. The words bombastic, charismatic and wild are as much applicable to the man as his wines.

From his close-planted Yarra Valley vineyard, evocatively named 'Bloody Hill', Timo carves out some astounding wines made with low levels of new oak and minimal additions. The signature of Timo's winemaking style is his penchant for whole-bunch ferment. His wines have an ethereal quality, firm tannins and impeccable structure.

These are compelling and extremely limited wines that tell a unique story of the Yarra Valley.
The Bloody Hill range is now the responsibility of Timo's talented son Rivar Mayer Ferguson, and has dropped the Mayer on the label from the 2021 releases. They continue to be superb value wines.

No, feel free to mix it up! There is no minimum requirement. You can order wines in any quantity or combination, 1 or 50+ bottles.

No, all prices are set at the full discounted dozen rate already.

Most wine retailers list at a single-bottle price and then discount 10–15% when you buy six or twelve. We've taken the opposite approach. Since the overwhelming majority of our orders are already 6 bottles or more, our list price is set for the case buyer from the start. There's no inflated single-bottle price to discount down from.

What that means for you:

- One price, same for everyone — no minimum to hit to unlock the best rate
- No mixed-six gymnastics to qualify for a discount
- Our single-bottle price is typically at or below a traditional retailer's by-the-dozen rate

Put simply: the box discount is already baked into the price.

**And if you find it cheaper elsewhere?** Let us know. If the same wine is available at a lower price at another retailer (including at their mixed-six or by-the-dozen rate) we're happy to match it.

If you can't add more wine to your cart it means we are low on stock of that wine. For example, if you are only able to 3 bottles and no more that means we only have 3 bottles left of that wine. If it's a must have, please contact us and we may be able to order more in for you.
